Are you asking if it would be ok to run the JDM fuel and timing maps? The answer would be no. Their maps are more aggressive but their fuel is different as well. As far as running a JDM mivec map, yes you can do that.

you could run slightly modified versions of the JDM fuel and timing maps, but you would be better off just tuning from your stock maps, i mean really your fuel and timing maps are your main tuning tools and then the VVT is something you should tweak after you dial those in. The VVT map is nothing to be afriad of b/c i have gone realy what seems aggressive and only seen a couple of times register knock. But if you look at any 9s numbers compared to 8s they usually have higher torque and hold it longer trough the powerband.

I simply put them together and adopted them to 91 octane gas use. Basically above 6000 rpm I zero out the mivec completely. I did not find much power difference between advancing timing above 6000 and zeroing it out. My car became more knock sensitive when mivec timing was advanced above 6000 rpm. Since gas pices are going down, I am hoping that 100 octane would fall back to $4.99/g. I can go back to mixing for 93 octane and see if advancing the mivec above 6000 rpm with 93 octane gas helps the top end.

The spool up in this mapis fantastic. At the low end 500-3000 rpm it is like driving an NA car. Just shift at low rpm to the next gear and it pulls. The only downside is the idle goes up a bit. in normal driving it stays around 800 rpm. After hammering on the car it hovers around 1000 rpm. But I have a cure for that with another map that lowers timing advance in the idle areas, but it is not as snappy as this map.

so hv u tried advancing over 6000 using 93 oct???

I have seen no gains on the dyno from advancing the Mivec past 6000 rpm. On some Evo's it drops peak hp. I've tried advancing on almost every single Evo 9 that has come through our shop just for shiats and giggles and I come to the same conclusion every time.

Depends on the mods, etc.

On some cosworth equipped Evo 9's I have seen peak HP peak earlier and hold longer up top with advanced Mivec, but not actual peak HP gains.

It seems to work pretty well. I would just leave out the advancement in the idle cells. There is no reason for that unless you want a lopey idle.

Just want to remind everyone again that 28.8 deg is actually the max advance that the MIVEC system can do. Entering anything greater than 28.8 will still only get you 28.8.

mrfred,

Actually this reminds me, do you still have the schematic for the MIVEC cam gear? I cant seem to find it right now in any thread. Since I am gonna switch to different cams I am thinking I am gonna hack that off and see what happens. Worse is I need a new cam gear I think.
