Locked ECU Unlocker tool..
Okay guys, I have written a small tool that will allow you to easily use ECUFlash to unlock a locked ECU..
Basically, you run it before you launch ECUFlash... In turn ECUFlash will work with locked ECU's.. When your done, exit ECUFlash and exit the app..
I am finalizing the program now, it will be posted up later on my Forum in the download section..
I have no intention of supporting the program, but if its broken let me know..
Save your current version of ECUFlash, although the program doesn't alter anything, new versions of ECUFlash may not work with this.. so keep the 1.28 version somewhere.
THIS WILL BE POSTED ON AKTIVEMATRIX LATER WHEN I CAN FINALIZE THE PROGRAM..

Well an ECU that has been tuned by a certain company that starts with "E" and ends with "k" comes to mind. Once they tune your ECU they lock it so that it cannot be read with Ecuflash or even by the dealer.

There are quite a few locked ECU types out there, ralliart, some non-evo mitsubishis.. Basically anything that may typically fail in ECUFlash you can try with this, and it should work. This is mitsubishi specific though. So it won't work on other locked ECU's

Dope dude, this sounds good.
For example, will an EcuTek ECU still carry over it expanded capabilities, or will someone who unlocks their ECU have to use the less comprehensive EcuFlash?

I have it on good authority that ECUFlash has access to more features in the ECU than all the other products out there. I also know that the current locked ECU's have basically stock roms with tuned maps, just like any other reflash, the only difference is some proprietary information used to uniquely identify the ECU, the tuner, and the license owner is embedded in unused space, hence you should use it to back up and modify your own map, and not share them.
This may change in time when ECU Programmers start writing brand new ROMs for the mitsubishi ECU to add new functionality. At that point you are dealing with brand new code, and I cannot be sure this will still work, though it should..

As far as I know, the earlier ones aren't locked, the 2005/2006 WRX and STi may be locked.. If I had access to the cars I could probably figure it out.
