That is funny because I found a decent amount of power by advancing the MIVEC at 6500 and 7000.

I ran consistent low 12's and tuned 2 cars that both ran 114 with no more boost than I am running. One of those cars ran multiple 11's. I was advancing anywhere from 12-9.6* degrees extra with cammed cars and 10-7* more than stock with just stock cams.

It was a derivative of this map:

Dan I,
One thing that I noticed from the logs you posted is that you have started each log at a different RPM. This can throw off your results (especially at low RPMs) because of the turbo having different transient response characteristics when you start the pull at different RPMs.

Not trying to knock any of your work, I think that this is the best method to possibly tune the mivec timing.

How much advancement? I just advanced it to about 4.8 or so and lost WHP, maybe with more advancement it would produce some gains.

I just tried the 4.8 advancement and called it a day. This car was doing 294whp on a low-reading mustang dyno that read likes buschurs.

I was advanced 9.6 at 6500 RPM, and 6.0 at 7000RPM. The power then fell off pretty hard above 7000 because I had no Mivec control at 7500.

That brings up a question... Does the Mivec Map then default to 0 if your RPM is above your highest break point?

Brian, I wondered that same thing and since I couldnt find a fool proof way to verify I just rescaled the MIVEC chart out to 8K.

Interesting. I'll do some more exploring on the dyno after the holidays then. Thanks for the info!

This has been covered, and on a real dyno, not a virtual one...

More info is good info though. I just think its easier to see what is "actually" happening on a dyno.

According to my Mitsu service manual the maximum range is 30*. There is at least one tuner however that believes it goes higher (incorrectly I might add) but he no longer posts here (or is banned...not sure which).

If you have to go much more than 30* you need to rethink camshaft strategy. Subaru does it too give as much early torque as possible and maintain emissions. Between TGV's, AVCS, a small turbo, and a bigger motor you'd think they would be able to do it right to begin with. I like Subaru, but come on guys plan correctly and avoid some issues.

IXs with MIVEC and stock cams can move peak torque (not just boost, BUT peak torque) down to 3150 or so with proper tuning. I cant wait till I get some time and a little more money to throw in an intake cam.
