The car switches maps already so I don't think its an issue. That all depends on how the ECU transitions between its maps though. You definitely wouldn't want it to be abrupt, I have a feeling it transitions in a safer manner than that though...by design.

I guess it does matter primarily on how it goes about switching the maps. Hopefully tephra can go into some more detail about it.

I will probably just implement a manual switching type setup, although on the USDM's they don't have the ICS button which I am currently using - guess I will have to think of another input

Manual is better from my point of view because then the driver has to be aware of the change - Thus less chance of error (ie switching to your C16 map while on 91 oct while driving up a steep hill... lol)

Awesome...map switching was one of the reasons I was thinking about Cobb's Access Port...but not anymore.

What exaclty is the ICS button? Is it the intercooler sprayer button, which has the options of auto and manual on the center console? I have an 04 and my brother has an 04 and both have them.

USDM 05+ don't have the ICS button. Only '03 and '04.

...so only 03 & 04 USDM evos will be able to have switchable maps. I don't mind

It's good news if we can really do it. E85 & 93 octane switch sounds very good to me

The pin is available at the ECU, but there is no wiring.

With the manual button being used to switch maps, when can these be switched? How is the driver notified of the switch (prevent it from being switched by accident)? How are these secondary maps accessed and tuned? Will additional tables be added to EcuFlash? Sorry for all the questions, but I very curious about this setup.

at the moment my map switch is enabled when the auto button is ON, RPM=0 and IGN=ON, then you use the TPS to select which maps you want.

notification of which map is used is via the ICS lamp in the dash - slow flashing indicates you are running on the alternate map.

tuning is done via EcuFlash we just copy the maps we want switched and XML is provided.

I want to change the activation method as its a PITA at the moment - I am thinking of doing a time calculation (similar to Valet) but on the Auto ICS button... I will probably have protection so you can switch maps when rpm > 3000 or load > 100

Does this only work on IXs or will it work on Evo VIIIs as well?

either - as I said the main sticking point is the input to change the map..

I guess I will just have to get people that don't have the AutoICS button wired in, wire in a push button switch - hrmm that didn't make sense... :P
