Window XP/Vista Tablet and Logging
I plan on buying a 7 inch screen mobile PC. It comes with either Window XP or Vista Tablet. Has anyone tried logging with Window Tablet Operating System? I want to know if Evoscan and Logworks would work with the Windows Tablet?

What is the purpose of the PC in the car?

My laptop is just too big. I want something that will fit in my glove box. This way I can just put it in there if I get pulled over Just unplug the usb ports and throw it in the glove box.

I believe that the Vista/XP tablets are used on Mobile/Micro computers. The OS is supposedly different from the regular Vista/XP for a laptop/desktop.

As I said before, Vista does not. Its same old regular Vista whether its a tablet PC or a laptop/desktop. The programs should behave the same on a tablet running Vista as they do on a laptop/desktop running Vista.
XP Tablet PC could be hit or miss because while the OS is similiar enough to regular XP that it should work, then again it might not.
A few people here have Vista on their tuning machines and their input will help this decision.
Edit. I should add that if it was me, I would buy for the future so once i didn't hear any bad issues with Vista and the tools then I would just go that route.

XP Tablet is almost the same as regular XP with the exception of the added handwriting recognition for Stylus equipped units and a few added pieces of software to go along. While I am sure there are some that use Vista on their laptops I ended up going back to XP because of issues. YMMV
NJ if you feel the need I could probably borrow one of the tablets from a employee at work and test logging functions but even without testing I am over 95% sure it would work without problems.
As far as the dedicated mobile pc's are concerned I personally would stay away from the VIA processors as they are just too darn slow for my tastes

you are opening yourself up to a lot more scrutiny by putting something in the glove box. An officer is watching your every move when he pulls you over, remember he has got to watch for a gun or discarded drugs.
I don't know how much trouble you can get into with a laptop, think I'd close it and put it on the floor as nonchalontly as possible.

A tablet PC w/XP is proven to work. stick with what works. Besides, any tablet you buy now, you can have loaded w/XP! also it will surely be upgradeable to Vista's version.
Not a lot of companies offer XP on their machines. I know bestbuy for business does (cause i work there) you dont have to have a business account to buy one either.
Mobile PCs isnt a bad option either. however, you will find that 95% of them run VIA chipsets. Just get the one that can hold the most RAM and youll be set.
