Question Evoscan Logs (New logs posted, HELP AGAIN!)

so i just did some evoscan logs in 3rd gear WOT, from approx 2500rpm to 7500rpm.

the problem is that from what i see i am getting excessive knock (if i am reading it right).

i know i have to pull timing cause i have no wideband to adjust AFR.. the question is how do i actually see where knock occurs and how much timing at what RPM.

i can post my logs if neccessary, i am a noob to Evoscan.

Thanks guys!

not true. Too lean or rich can also causing knock as well. Post the log will help but generally you'll be looking at the rpm, 2-byte load, timing and afr versus the knock sum on the same data row to make decision of what to adjust.

Wow timing overload.. at 3K RPM.. You should also include LOAD in the datalogged values. You are on the stock map? Or did you or someone else modify it?

Also: What boost are you running.. ?

What octane gas are you running?

You said you are running stock map? What are your mods?

get a real stock rom for your car and start over. For around 7 count of knock I'm already very worry and you got that much of knock. You need to find the source of the knock.

I'm currently assisting rolly1818 with his car but I'm NY at the moment and can't directly assist in logging/reflashing the car. Let me expalin a little about this car. It's located in Trinidad...the gas there is similar to the 91 octane in California. The pump says 93, but it's closer to 91 from what tuners have discovered.

The car is stock but came with a modified version of IX GT rom 89980000 which ran ridiculous amounts of timing, mivec maps I've never seen, higher boost and a rev limit at 7945 rpm. (refer to this post for more info). I recommended that rolly1818 reflash the car to a stock JDM IX GSR rom (ID 8928002) asap and baby it until he gets some 3rd gear logs. The car wouldn't start with the rom...I though it was immobilizer related but there was no way to tell unless I could check the car in person. Instead, and as a temporary solution, I altered the 89980000 rom which came off the car to reflect that of a JDM IX GSR. The logs you see in this thread are based on the maps from a stock JDM IX GSR.

Unsurprisingly the car is still suffering from knock as the factory tune is known to be on the rich side with a lot of timing. I just wanted something better on the car until I could sort out the 2byte load addresses on the car. Looking back...I should have recommended him running US IX GSR maps until I could find the 2byte address...it would have been even more conservative than the JDM maps.

Again, the purpose of this was to get that ridiculous map off the car until 2byte load could be found on his stock rom. Of course it's not the best solution...but I didn't feel comfortable throwing arbitrary or even educated guesses at what timing to run the car on until the 2byte could be found and the car logged. jcsbanks, has assisted in locating the addresses for 2byte load so that rolly1818 can now log load and start eliminating knock by map tracing the target cells. Thanks again go out to him. I've also recommended that he invest in an innovate LC-1 to log his AFRs in EvoScan, ideally placed before the catyltic converter between 10 and 2 o'clock.

One question I should ask as you guys are here is logging JDM MAP in EvoScan. I know that the US roms require some modifications in order to log this, but what about the JDM rom...does the JDM rom (ID 89980000) need to be modified to log JDM MAP in evoscan?

I'm providing the roms so you guys can see exactly what I'm talking about. This zip contains the following:

  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]

LINK

The New_2byte_mod reflects that of a stock US IX GSR (ID 88590014) with the 2byte load mod. I though this would be the best thing to use when rolly1818 logs the next time since the car is knocking so heavily. I welcome any advice you guys have to offer.

One thing I recently observed was the scaling contrast in the US VS JDM Knock Filter map:

I forgot to add --> It's not uncommon to see logs with 10-20 counts of knock on stock evos in Trinidad. Many owners are ignorant of their engine, it never ceases to amaze me how these guys drive their cars every day oblivious to this fact and wonder why they blow the engine later when they start to modify and remain untuned. It's good to see people like rolly1818 being proactive about it instead of waiting for what's essentially a ticking time bomb.
