Comments on log for 94oct

Did a bit of quick tuning. Wanted to see how much more timing you can run with 94oct. I hate only getting 91 out here in CA...

4gal 91oct, and 2gal 100oct = ~94 oct

This is on stock boost
im running Naji's VVT map
my own AFR map
and a variation of Naji's ubersafe timing map.

Mods:
HKS Drop-in
Tanabe DP
Stock Cat
Works MP
2.5" Muffler delete.

I think i can run a bit (maybe 1°) more timing from 4-5.5K. I tried running 18° at 7k+ but, it wont do it. It will start knocking anywhere from 3-5°

On 91, it wont run more than 1° at peak boost, and no more than 11° at 7k+.

Ambient temps: 55ish°
IAT1: 69° @ 2.5K ramping down to 60° @ 7.5K
coolant temps: 175ish°
IDC: 80.59% @ 7.5K
MAF Hz peak: 1598.xx @ 7.5K

3rd gear pull:
(I have a 4th gear pull, but it looks exactly like this one, just a bit richer, and longer...)

I also ran this a little bit today at lunch (~75°F) , and was getting a bit of knock in 4th @ 7K... i gotta go back and retune a little bit.

Anyone have any comments?

On pump gas and on the stock ECU, it seems IX's dont really like more than 15* or so by redline...maybe a little more depending on overall package. You didnt even hit clip before 7500, so I am assuming that this is fairly low boost on top of whatever timing issues you are having? I would ditch the stock cat for a HFC if you are intent on keeping it legal, but EGT's will rise at restrictions like that and higher EGT mean the combo will be more likely to knock.

How much boost?

12.1 AFR at 3500 with 3 degrees isn't too bad if you are running 94. I run 93 with 3* at 3625 at 12.0 AFR with 25.9 psi boost on my last data log. My car is tuned to be pretty high strung just because it's my car, and I want to see just how far I can take it.

Your car might, at least on 91 (Maybe even 94) be a tad on the high strung side.

EDIT: Actually, you said you had a MAF peak of roughly 1600, which leads me to believe your aren't running as much boost as I am. My peak at 7074.219 is 1905.379Hz. (JDM MAP said 23.22665psi)

thats cool to do but you still will have to replace plugs sooner because of the lead in that high octane gas. or you can just mix toulene 1.5gallon per tank fill up and get up to around 94-95 octane

You can get 100 unleaded. In fact you can get up to 109 unleaded.

3-5 counts can be as little as 1 degree to much...you might be able to squeeze more out of the top end than you think.

Most 100 oct is not leaded. In fact I don't know of any sold to the public that is leaded.

To the OP, like I posted on socal evo, you need more boost. 229 peak load is "weaksauce". and under 200 load at 6k is also.

The only leaded 100 that you can buy easily is 100LL found in aviation use.

229 peak load? Thats probably about what 17psi or so on a stocker?

sorry for the delay, ive been talking with razorlab on my local forum.

This is basically my 'better than stock' tune. I havent really had much time to invest in buying a bunch of fancy parts, mainly cause im a student.

Stuff i should have said in the first post:
Its stock boost. Peak @ 1.36bar, settles at 1.2, tapers to 1.1-.9bar at redline.
I have a 3" highflow cat that is going in tonight, ill bite the bullet and deal with the p0420's. (i need to just hook up the LC-1 to the sensor...)
WGDC is 100% except for at peak its 90% then 95%.

This is VP100 out of the pump. Non-leaded.

Ive found that the car doesnt like more timing at redline during the evenings...kinda strange...

I was logging at lunch today and was able to squeak 18° right at 7500.

I will be working closely with Razorlab here in a few weeks to get this thing up and running well (meaning: making some good power with more boost)

oh, p.s. My EGT's (measured 6" from the outlet) never get over 1350-1400. Even in 5th at WOT for a minute.

measured with the Blitz DTT, and my eyes shifting to the MR boost gauge on the dash it says about 1.36bar = ~19.99psi here at 800'above sealevel.

on some random occasions, ive been able to peak 1.48 bar on random situations, mainly coming out of turns, or starting up hill.
