Timing vs. AFR in relation to making power
#31
Another question (this one might be somewhat noobish)... how can I add in more load cells? Not beyond 300, but in between? Right now it's every 20 (200, 220, 240, etc), and I can see it being a bit of a pain in the *** to get an accurate AFR set when I gotta take a wild guess as to which cells to modify. For instance, if I want to change the AFR at 4500rpms and it's at 250 load, do I change the 240 cell, 260 cell, both, what?

The ECU interpolates between the cells so if you have 6 at 220 and 8 at 240 then the ECU will read a 7 at 230 even though it's not visible. Sometimes you have to modify one, sometimes both.. depends on what your trying to do. Overall try to keep the entire landscape smooth.

You can change the scale but you can't add map resolution.. The fuel table on a IX will always be 15x20. You can rescale the cells.

Other than it affecting other tables possibly for the worse, you can drop the 20-30 like Dave said since they dont affect idle fueling anyway and the car isnt really there other than idling. It will interpolate the value between 10 and 40 and since they are the same value anyway it would be okay if it was idling open loop.

^^ what 2 tables? I know it affects the low octane map, but what else?
Also, it seems like the way to go is to lean out a little as boost tapers off. What if your lucky enough to peak/hold 21psi to redline? I peak at 21-22 and hold it to redline, using an old school Greddy Profec B. I assume that I should shoot for a consistent AFR with that being said. Is that correct?
My goal is 12.5 tapering to 11.7 at peak torque, and hold it to redline. Im running 91 (E10). And have been running 11.5 tapering to 11.0 at redline. With 2* peak torque timing tapering up to 12-13* or so at redline. Id guess that I will have to decrease timing mostly up top. I dont have an EGT gauge. Do you guys think that I getting into unsafe EGT land with these low numbers. Or is it all relative? As long as your not ultra conservative with AFR or timing, youre good?
Sorry for bringing it back from the dead...
