I need ECU help guys
I have an ECU question for all of you. I recently bought and EVO IX from a non-emissions state, I live in Colorado. My car has 272 cams, turboback exhaust (cat) and perrin down pipe, so I failed the Colorado emissions test. SO i took my car to my local tuner to help try to make some adjustments to pass my emissions, and we are locked out of the ECU from the previous tuner. The guy I bought the car from said that it was tuned by a large tuner in his state and he was unaware that they locked it. The tuner I am working with to try to tune the car to pass emissions could not unlock the ECU, so it seemed that my only option is to send my ECU to the original tuner to reflash it. I dont want to download the existing map or anything, just want to unlock it and restore to stock so we can start a fresh tune. So long story short, to avoid taking out the ECU and sending it to back to reflash and spend $100+ and multiple days without a car, does anyone have a solution for this? I would greatly appreciate any help or advice you might have.

It will unlock it and add the 'new' definition to your ROM xml Files....I recommend that you get a clean, unlocked rom image (A true 88590015 image) and copy your tune/immobilizer code over to it....88590015 will work regardless of what ROM you have on your car if in fact u have an Evo IX as I can see in your car info...

^^Yes! The IX OEM map id is 88590015.
if you're going to put the new map on then the only reason that you need to unlock the ecu is to get the immobilize code so that you can update the new map with that code in order to start the car.
i hate that when tuner did that to the car. All that is to protect their map but disregard of the owner who is also paid for the tune. It need to be a good/fair solution that work for both parties. At least they need to keep your immobilize code somewhere on the car.

Thanks alot for the info man. I hope this works today. I disagree with the whole locking thing too, it just screws the car owner. I understand wanting to protect your tune from Mits. service or other tuners, but really that is the car owners decision. I do graphic and web design for my job and anything I create belongs to me until I am paid by the client, then all rights transfer to them upon payment, then they can do anything they want with what I've created. It sucks for me but that is how it works. There definitely needs to be a solution for this.
