you have four options:
1) reduce boost (easiest for most people)
2) reduce timing
3) increase octane
4) retune for you mods/boost/octane

just as a note to others reading this thread, option 2 should be done
with caution as excessive reduction in timing can lead to much hotter egt's
which can cause other problems,
i would possibly prioritize them as:
1)increase octane
2)retune for mods
3)reduce boost
4)reduce timing
but you'll probaly have your own thoughts on that too

I don't think Mellon necessarily meant to reduce the timing that drastically. Often just retarding timing by 1 degree can remove up to 8 counts of knock by itself.

I would change the fuel to Tesco 99 or Shell VPower, both have an octane rating 2 points higher @ UK 99 ron.
Most JDM VIII's I've logged show knock sums up to 3, running 99 ron fuel and a decat.

ok got the apexi controlling boost after a fight getting the stock
vacuum pipes off the actuator
took it out for a test drive and i do have control of boost now
base boost is .8bar and i ran a 1.2bar which felt much smoother
than the 1.35bar from stock, i haven't done a log yet but i will soon,
atm the apexi doesn't seem to hold the boost as steady as stock but its
very very little deviation, the apexi duty cycle is still flat so once i play with it or
see what learn duty cycle comes up with boost should be solid

here's the 3 pulls, i did go 100% throttle from 2000rpm so don't know what happened there!
boost was at 1.2bar down from 1.35
.
i did 1 run at 1bar and knocksums were down to 8max!

unfortunately the loadcalc didn't show any values but based on what I can see, the tune is simply too aggressive for the octane.
