Smoothing your tune with graphing

On to the smoothing,
Flashed a v5 smooth timing map to the car today, got in three back to back good logs and she is silky smooth. She has never pulled so clean. 0-1 cnts of totally random knock is all I could muster. It's safe to say there was a sig amount of heat soak present throughout the pulls, as I have to drive about 10 miles to get to a safe area to log.
After smoothing out my custom map and logging, I decided to conduct a experiment for curiosity's sake. I took a certain vendor pruchased map that I have saved (that is total crap, the car hates it, the tune breaks up @6,000rpm and 180load; smoothed it out by a mulitple of only 5 (just the timing) and ran three more back 2 back logs, all good ones from 2000rpm to 7500rpm in 3rd gear. The problem areas were dramatically reduced. Needless to say, I definitely think I'll be able to help out a couple of my buddies who have been unfortunate enough to share a similar fate with a horrible vendor purchased map. After smoothing x5, pulled a few degrees in the problem areas, resmoothed 3 more x's, knock levels are within acceptable limits. I am very impressed with this worksheet. All this was accomplished within a 2 hour period, from start to finish.

Glad you started it Car is night and day different. Power now @ 26psi feels very similar to how it was @ 31psi.
Only reason boost is down cause i'm on the stock headstuds.
Will jump back on the dyno when I install my 10.5, Exhaust mani(self ported) O2 Housing. I feel confident with the smoothing and the boost at 31psi(temporarily) I can hit 380-390whp w/out upgraded cams.

I gotta say I'm rather shocked at the amount of smoothing cycles you're going through Booster. Can't argue with the results but at after even 1 cycle, 2 at most all the changes are on the order of a single quantized data point. The only places that seem to keep getting smoothing at the dramatic features which are generally in areas we don't even see during a WOT pull.
I can't argue with results but it does still make me wonder if there isn't power being lost in the areas that I would consider being over-smoothed. When you get a chance please post pre/post maps. And post the vendor one too. 1) it is **** so **** him 2) we can't exactly copy the map from the chart 3) who would want to anyway :O
PS ... would you say that the load cells you hit during boost are, on average, the same timing and fuel ratio as before? retarded? advanced? lean? rich?

So I tried the smoothing excell file last night, smoothed my Fuel and Timing maps 1 time, and they looked smooth! (I think 1 more smoothing should net me very close to 100% smooth) I went out and did some logging today... I must say Im very impressed w/ this! After the first couple pulls, I noticed I needed to adjust me Boost tables a bit, (tried somethin different) and after I did that, the outcome was an increase of 11 HP / 30 Tq according to evoscan! 351 hp/ 345 tq. was the best run. w/ No more than an occasional 2 counts... graphs looked a bit better as well! I know this isnt a #'s thread, but Im extremely excited w/ my results! I must say this is a very cool tuning tool! Thanks again guys!
I noticed every1 was describing how their car felt, by describing it as "smooth" and thought to myself, people are just saying that because of the "graph smoothing" but I must say, the car feels much stronger ( obviously), and smoother throughout the whole powerband!
Cheers

I found the maps some place (sorry I don't remember). I copied and pasted the cells into my map (purchased from a "tuner") I guess I can't say it is the exact same, but almost. Needless to say the tune is very good on gas and the car pulls great. I did have to do a deal of tweeking to get it to be spot on though. Sorry if I mis led anyone.
I would post the map with the 3d smoothed table if I knew how.
Smoothing is the best you guys ROCK ! !

Fuel Map
keep in mind, previously tuned, but upgraded IC, LICP & HFC, and decided to apply what I've learned. No WB...yet but Im trying to get a handle on this before I even get it!
Ok so I have smoothed my "fuel" map, (once) and looking @ it in 3d graph, it appears to be in the low 10's - 9's. runnnin rich! Am I reading the graph wrong? Im new to the whole 3D graphs, and editing the fuel tables @ all for that matter!
I was trying to figure out how I was able to manage 26-27psi on 91... Ithink I found out how... lol workin on it...
current map:
Shouldnt it look more like this? Edited based on my perspective of how the fuel map should look like in 3D graph.
I know I need to get a WB before editing this table, but I would like to confirm what Im looking @ and understanding this right.
TIA

I have been looking for some type of "grid smoothing" software for about 6 months now when discovered in EcuFlash v1.31. Been killing my eyes in the dark for days at a time killing my eyes trying to getting maps to look aesthetically pleasing. I press my IE homepage button to the ECUFlash section of EvoM and my prayers were answered...10 days late but yeah.... THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget to watch out for areas that shouldn't be smoothed and a little timing to have the car run smooth when cruising. I know v2 gives the option for areas, not sure if they did timing no touch areas yet.

I smoothed the timing, fuel and mivec maps and found the car much nicer to drive. Less jerky off throttle and smoother transitions on and off. Thanks for the info and the smoothing program, I touched up the mivec by hand.
Thanks, Glen
