Dyno tuning; tail pipe or LC-1 best?

I've noticed that a lot of tuners use the tail pipe for measuring AFRs when tuning on a dyno. If a car has a wideband would it be better to measure the AFRs from the wideband or use the calibrated tail pipe sniffer?

If both are calibrated, there shouldn't be any difference.

My LC-1 was spot on compared to the sniffer the last time I was at AMS.

Thanks for the response. I know there is only a few feet difference between the LC-1 sensor and the tail pipe sniffer but I was concerned that the tail pipe sniffer might not get as an accurate reading.

If you have any leaky gaskets between the lc-1 and the sniffer, the sniffer will read more lean (due to fresh air being venturied into the exhaust pipe)

Wouldn't the catalytic converter screw up the tailpipe reading? I mean most wideband manuals specify the sensor to be placed before the cat.

^ That's IF there is a cat.

I would say the LC-1 would be the best to read off of. Especially if you do any logging when NOT on the dyno since that's the only reading you'll be getting to work with.

I do have a high flow cat and my LC-1 is obviously before that.

Thanks for the input guys.
