Ignition Timing E85 vs 91 octane

Yea timing is changed all over. I spent a bunch of time/miles/fuel mapping on my personal Evo 8 for E85. Of course the 9 is slightly different in timing but the strategy does carry over.
The above is 1-2* below MBT as it's a customers car and he autox and tracks it so I wanted to keep it safe.
I've found E85 is usually not a knock limited fuel. You get to a certain point and it will not knock, even beyond MBT. The dyno is good tool when tuning E85 as you can see when you go beyond MBT. Road tuning for knock might get a rod through the block.

I think if you are good about using DLL and trying to keep as much constant as possible you could.
Also experience helps alot, which I know you have tuning the 4G63. People tell me I am crazy when I say I can actually hear small differences between tuning changes.
Going beyond MBT doesn't always mean you don't gain anymore power either. Paying attention to the curves is key as well. If you gain 8whp but the curves aren't smooth anymore, obviously the motor isn't very happy.

I used to tune my 4g63 by ear. Retarded as it was, I was the most reliable/fastest back then. Then I threw a wideband on it and got "scared" so I richened it up. Since the wideband I've never broke as many parts and went as slow. Thanks for the input. I'll trust my insticts. Its just that I know, for a fact, that straight ethanol motors will preignite before detonate, so the tuning style is not det limited. I'll trust my ears and the "feel" of the motor when tuning on E85.

I do have a problem that I haven't had time to figure out/ tune out yet, though. My car can't take any timing anymore...my knock cel flashes like a B. I know the QTP downpipe flange is hitting the cat heat shield, so it may be that, but I think it very well may be due to the restrictive stock cat/cat-back. I need time to tune and figure it out. I may end up putting my high flow cat back on if it turns out it is the stock cat causing most of the problem.
The car is loud with the cut-out open though. I've only tested it a couple times, but it's loud as hell. Straight through 3" from the DP, though, so you aren't going to get a much better flowing setup for track use while maintaining stock quiet for daily driving road use.
