Can't log AEM WB in Vista (Evoscan)

I'm close to smashing my new laptop to bits. Evoscan logs just fine but when I try to log the AEM Wideband through a serial cable it will not work. I set the com port to 3 in device manager and then set it to three in Evoscan. At one point it actually read for half a second (incredibly annoying) before cutting out.

The message I get now with version Evoscan version 2.6 is "wideband port is already in use, close the other program or choose a corrrect com port from the wideband menu"

Info: Initialize Vehicle ECU...
Info: Initializing At 5 baud...
Info: Initialization Complete...
Info: Waiting for INIT Response...
Info: ECU ID: E4C7
Info: Connection successful...
Error: Unable to open COM2
The system cannot find the file specified
Info: Datalogger Ended.

I have used this setup on my old xp laptop without a problem. Has anyone gotten around this problem? Thanks.

No experience with 2.6 but it sounds like you may want to check port availability on Vista. (COM2)

I tried it with 2.5 and 2.0 as well. How do i check port availibility? I go device manager and it says which ports are in use and I assign the WB to an open port.

What port is the WB showing up as connected to in Windows? That is what you set its port to be in EvoScan.

Before I changed it it came up as com port 18. Yes I said 18. There is no 18 selection in Evoscan.

Try another comport. You may just have a conflict.
Or try slowing the port speed down.

Also you are using a beta version of Evoscan. Try an older version.

As far as I know, you should check your firewall, Vista likes to block everything...
(Even with the security center desactivated)
or, try to downgrade your laptop to XP!
Good luck.
