well your first port of call is doing the comparison of the various knock maps.

check jcsbank's thread for information.

but knocksum is DIRECTLY derived from those knock maps - so if your getting knock NOW - then the maps must be different, in which case you can probably just copy the maps over...

The knock tables are identical between the two ROMs.

I think there may be something going on with this ROM as well. I, too, get knock in that area, but what I hate even more is that SD IPW issue that I see with this ROM. I don't know if it's just this ROM as I haven't really seen any logs from others running SD on other ROMs.

I do wish 96940011 had room for the tephramods as well, but I will stick with 96530006 for now. I have no many changes and things wired into the ECU now, that I can't switch back, since the patches aren't available for 96940011.

you sure you got all the knock tables worked out?

I guess I can compare the code and make sure it's identical...

There's nothing regular about this phantom knock on the 9653 rom.
Im def going to check that out. I'll report back about it vs my old 94170015 rom.
I am utilizing the 94170015 map...

And yes, 3 counts here, partial throttle, on, off, etc. I can cruise for 45 miles, great, and then if I pull over and let the car idle, throws the CEL. Look in the logs, and find out the knock count of 10's etc, are from 20 minutes prior, during the cruise period, not at idle...

Why would it take so long for the CEL light to throw...?

I adjusted the "Max Total Upward WGDC Correction VS. TPS" ...the last two colums were 10 and 10, everything else zero. So i brought the last two ones down to 2.5, and 5.0.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll have 2 more cars for you to compare your problem too very shortly. Mine and a customers. Mine with 850's and his with 950's though. (and 30R and RED) I honestly have my concerns however. I personally don't lug motors along at 2k rpm for any reason. My main mode of transportation has been a 4G something since 99'. So I don't drive in the area you have problems with. Not even on the highway. He does. And he still has the stock inj in for the time being. If I can get the car ported up on SD quickly - maybe I can get a comparison on the same car with 560's and 950's. To see if your problem is exacerbated by the stock inj or softened by larger ones at least.

The main concern on my car is 1 byte load. It reads bullsh*t on my car. I can push 30+psi and nearly 50lbs/min through it and come up with 260 load.

Pro hides airflow. I know this, but come on... on 9694 I was seeing near 300 load at 25psi. The reason I'm worried is Pro locks down IAT at 80* and does it's own temp comp. So it should be a more stable load reading - as the temp is always unchanging.

It just reads where I'm playing "guess a cell" tuning. And I'm not having fun with it.

That would be awesome. Right now it seems like if a mouse fart's in Tibet my knock sensor goes off. At first I thought it was because my AC comp was dying - so I just pulled AC all together. But I honestly think it picks up my injectors ticking it's so sensitive. When I put the new lifters in - I bled them and let them pump up in the engine. Every tick resulted in 1 or 2 counts of knock. Or like - a million - and driving the car was nearly impossible until they shut up. I had one or two ticking before - (thus replacing them) so when they shut up I expected the problem to basically cease. It didn't. I still get random knock all over at part throttle.

On the old rom this just wasn't the case. Which is why I'm getting so frustrated trying to kick the ghosts out of the new rom. My customers car acted the same way. It had a horrible tune on it on (96940011) and didn't knock like this. Put 9653 on it and all it wanted to do is knock at part throttle.

I knocked 40 points out of the decay and it seemed to help... slightly. But IMO this isn't the answer. I WANT to know if the car is knocking. And turning the volume down seems like sticking my fingers in my ears and going "la la la la". So until I know there is increased sensitivity, and I'm just going down to where I was before. I'm extremely hesitant to touch knock tables. It's not how I have ever approached tuning. So it puts me in a genuinely uncomfortable position.

I am getting increasingly frustrated with it, but make no mistake - 0 of it is directed your way David. I can't believe you are still supporting these roms considering you don't even have a car they work on. And your work is greatly appreciated by all of us. Just to be 100% clear.

Yah did that, but at cruising again, I log it for about 45 miles, commuting, and i see knock, and feel it throughout the drive, say a couple times, were you can feel the power of the car change, in that RPM range...partial throttle fluctuation and it will hiccup.

It almost sounds like maybe the rom flash you are using has some bad code in it. Have you tried a fresh rom and (yes it is a pain) starting from scratch?

I ask this because when I first upgraded to the 94170015, I had a bad flash. The car ran like poop. I simply downloaded a fresh rom and started over. All has been good since.

Its probably not the flash and more "old car syndrome". I used to have "phantom knock" issues in my DSM and I fixed it with not code changes. As the evo's change this will become a more prevalent problem and the ones who cut their teeth on the older 4g63's will have a distinct advantage here.
