Acer Aspire ONE 11.6 netbook FTW!

I bought a new tuning/logging computer so I can finally get all my programs running correctly. I was using a powerful 64 bit windows xp laptop workstation (used to run solidworks), but the 64 bit windows xp didn't work with some programs.

So after considering a netbook for around 6 months I finally pulled the trigger. I got the Acer Aspire ONE 11.6, it was $349 at Costco. This is the only netbook with a full size keyboard, and the screen is large enough that it feels like a normal sized laptop. It has a 160 GB drive, 3 USB ports, wireless, a 3 cell battery that last 4 hours, windows xp blah, blah, blah.

What's cool:

- super lightweight
- super slim
- high res screen
- just slips in EVO glove box in the battery up orientation

I have Evoscan, ECUflash, Logworks, Data Log labs, Traqview, and some other random data loggers all working perfectly on it. The screen is just large enough to use for tuning with a few applications open jumping back and forth.

For $349 this thing is the ultimate computer for car use. I'm glad I got it, and glad I waited for the size to get to where it is now. The original netbooks were 9" screens, and then 10".... 11.6" is just right.

Nice I have an HP 1030NR, SSHD is nice and at $250 shipped couldn't be outsold!

The only downside is that its a 10.1" screen (although a full size keyboard) and that the SSHD is only a 16GB. I also opted for another stick of 1GIG memory for only $15bucks .

Sounds great!! I really like my Asus 1000HE ... the battery life is awesome, and while the screen res is manageable (1024x600), there are def times when a slightly higher res (and hence larger) screen would be very welcome. An Acer Aspire One 11.6 in 6-cell + 3G WWAN config would be very tempting, though it does look like the Acer Aspire One (at least in some configs) uses a slightly slower processor than the Asus 1000HE.

I use a toughbook y2... 3.7 lbs, 14.1" screen, 5+ hrs battery life, build-in optical drive.

Recently upgraded to a y7 so the y2 is stricty for tuning now.

Panasonic makes killer laptops I think and with 3 yr warranty as standard.

What weight is that ASUS? 11" screen I think would bother me.

Yeah that's the sweet setup. I don't need that many bells and whistles for logging and tuning.

Mine is 2.8 lbs

For something at the 2.7 lb weight, Panasonic makes a W series laptop. 12.1" screen with optical drive. 6 hrs battery life. But it's like $2k not $400!

Yeah, a netbook was definitely a great purchase for me as well. It makes tuning a lot easier and runs quite a bit faster than my previous laptop. Plus, it doesn't look as conspicuous when I walk out to my car with it compared to the huge 10-lb laptop I used to have (it was 7 years old).
