How To: Speed Density on the evo8 using tephra v7/Phenem pre-patched roms
#301
Yes it's true and boosting maximum 14,5psi in an evo is not a great idea. You need at least a 3bar map sensor (good up to 29psi) but I would suggest a 4bar sensor (up to 43psi) because it's the same price
You can trust scheides. Look who wrote the very first post of this thread.

ok! scheides start and wrote the very first post of this thread and I am not doubting anything from what he is saying.
I am just trying to figure out why Tom said I'll be fine but scheides says that can't be.
Maybe has something to do with JDM and USDM etc ?

14.5 psi is not that bad idea for a stock evo

But no, 14,5psi is not a good idea even on a stock evo, unless you want to produce 240hp instead of 280hp

My car bone stock, from the factory was 11.6 psi and produced 282hp. I am not lying and I have no reason to lying about it. Actually still it is producing 282hp at 11.6 psi since the first tuner I went didn't touch much the stock map, he just did the alternative maps.

2 bar = 29psi So why can't boost more than 14.5psi?
Just asking...I don't really know that things. My evo 9 JDM has this stock 2 bar map sensor and I asked Tom from tscompusa if I need to upgrade to go SD and he said "no" I don't need to upgrade. And I am sure he is going to tune it more than 14,5 psi
Am I missing something?

I don't want you to use the stock map sensor. I think we misunderstood each other.

check your emails pls.....we need to talk
thx

.....by the way I just remember that my car is now start boosting at 20.5 psi and goes up to 26.5 psi.
So i think is not just boosting at 23-24 psi. I guess is 2 bar sensor, so is 29 psi!!
Have anyone try it on a JDM car or you all talking about USDM?

Ive tuned plenty of JDM evos on speed density.
No you do not need to touch the map sensor if you're using a maf.
If you want to log past whatever the map sensor is capable, thats the only time you need to change it on a maf
I just have people upgrade to 4 bars to give a good range on SD for later use. you dont want to small vs to big when the map sensor is that important.
For MAF tuning you can leave it alone though.

Don't even know why we are arguing about that, or are we not?
