NEW netbook with windows 7?
I'm getting a new netbook for tuning the car. i was wondering should I stick with a netbook that has xp on it, or should i get windows 7? Has anyone had any issues running ecuflash and evoscan with windows 7?

If you strip down the installation (all the extra garbage that tries to run) you should be fine running win 7 on a netbook. You can't use the aero styles or the gadgets if you want good performance.
I used to run XP on an old Pentium II (233MHz) computer. I don't see why win 7 couldn't run in a 1GHz netbook.
I wouldn't pay extra money to get one with win 7 though. The win 7 system files take up valuable hard drive space. You really don't have much storage on some of the ones with solid state hard drives.

The one im looking at is a toshiba nb305 and has 160g hard drive so storage space is not really a concern. I was primarily worried about drivers and such between windows 7,ecuflash and evoscan. I've had some problems with vista with ecuflash and evoscan. ecuflash would not read my ecu, and evoscan 2.7 doesnt seem to work at all. although 2.6 seems to be fine. Contacted Hamish but never got a response. Thanks for the responses...I'm glad to know that window 7 should'nt be an issue. and as far a computing power goes processor speed shouldnt matter that much......it's the RAM thats an issue. the netbook comes with a GIG, but easily upgraded to to 2 if necessary.
again thanks for the input

I use windows 7 on my laptop that I use to log. The only snag I hit was in trying to find a serial to usb adapter driver so I could connect my wideband. Once I found the correct driver, I was set.

it will all work.
most important thing is battery life really..
I would do a test, see how long you can log with XP vs how long you can log with W7..
obviously you will need to disable aero in W7 otherwise it will run like a dog!

this is what you need

i got one myself and it works perfectly with evoscan and ecuflash. Best of all its win7 premium, DUAL CORE CPU! and 6 hour battery life. Huge keyboard and light. Its kind of between a netbook and notebook.

If all you plan on doing is tuning, I'd stick to XP. You will have less compatibility issues and the netbooks are general more inexpensive to begin with.
I picked up MSI netbook with 15 hour battery, 1.6G single core, 1GB RAM, 160G HDD and XP for $270 shipped. The only issue with it, they have made it impossible to upgrade memory without voiding the warranty and I do find it lacking on RAM.
Otherwise, if you have to have W7, they recently released a new version of the Atom that probably deals with it better.
