V7 SD conversion- for good!! UndR hood pIcs!

I've dabbled with SD off and on since V6. Having worked through the majority of issues with bigger injectors, cold starts and e85, I am finally happy with the drive-ability and road manners to the point where I wanted to tidy up the install and commit to a VTA system and ricer BOV. Still a few things left to do, but I love the way it has cleaned my cold side plumbing. In New England there is so much crap churned up (salt, sand, sleet and water) for most of the year I wanted to make using the factory air box and bracket a feature in my custom set up. I use mostly modifed HKS and factory parts with Wiggens clamps from the compressor outlet through to the TB (held 60 PSI indefinately on a boost leak test ).

Many thanks to all that have shared knowledge in the community here getting this set-up to behave as nicely or better than stock, those that gave thier time to create the software to make it possible, and of course my good friends at DSG. Matt K. for the dyno session and tuning help, Alex and Bill for the Artfull TIG welding and awesome local shop.

I like the idea of using the factory airbox. Nice setup.

Looks good. If an Evo was ever in an A-Team episode yours would be it.

Do you have adequate strain relief for the wiggins in the form of a few silicon couplers here and there?

A-team! Thanks man, I'm not worthy .

I'm not really sure to be honest... The clamps have 20* of axial freedom and we fab'd brackets where the stock IC pipes are secured to the car (actually used most of the original brackets and bushings welded on the new pipes).
You can grab either section from the turbo to the IC, or from the IC to the TB and wiggle them back and forth about 1/2 inch total travel. I have had the IC pipes on now for a couple seasons with no ill effects and it seems pretty bullet proof.

What intake pipe are you using? I'm having a hard time finding an intake pipe that has no holes in it (BOV hole, MAF, etc).

HKS "super racing suction" with all of the above (except barb for boost reference) sawed off, patched and welded up + a section of 4" pipe in place of the MAF. Most shops that do any fabrication can make you one, I like to do most of the cutting and sawing and then bring it to a proffessional fabricator to weld and fit.

Looks good man but why why why after all taht work did you put the stock air box back on there? I guess on the stock turbo it's not going to make much difference but its still a restriction going through all those bends and such. Looks great but IMHO get a perrin filter on there!

Got any dyno numbers for us?

The stock box is definitely a restriction. If you want to keep the box, at least cut out driver side to remove the restriction.

I thought it would be kinda cool... and it's my winter set up. The stock box has a nice steady bracket, it has a nice water /sound baffle design and a hydrophobic screen and one way drain in the bottom. Don't forget I've got it corked up with the stock muffler and a little turbo.

Here are some pulls just working through inj scaling VE/ AFR/ boost/ timing... Not exactly big power attempts. Drives pretty nice now, just wrestling with the trims still and a tiny lean stumble when cold at ~2.5k. (96533706 BTW)

Boost is 21PSI peak to 19sh up top "old" plot was the last time this car was on this dyno (93) and the "new" was I think the last pull we did on e85. Same mods, but with the rubber OEM induction pipe, Evo 9 BOV and the MAF still in place (unplugged) , this was before I built the fancy induction set-up in this thread.

I will go back when it's dialed in even better with a less restrictive exhaust and filter, turn up the boost and try to make some power. I really should do the timing belt first though In the mean time it's an awesome street machine, I love the sound and feel of the Tial.

stock air box power inhibitor...nice idea reusing the box.
Where is your breather hose from the manifold leading to?

that white stab bar is ugly but once you remove/replace that your engine bay is very clean.

No worries, here are some of the previous set ups I have run. The first set of pic is an HKS dome filter with an "Outerwares" water and dust shield on it from an earlier SD run (9157). The last 2 pics are my previous MAF set up with a heavily modified Apexi air box and HKS intake.

The valve cover breather hose... At this very moment goes nowhere. It will go to a recirc catch can via PVC delete.

When I got into V7 MAF I was using the OEM rubber induction set up and air box both because it was winter but also to keep the MAF sensor happy.

When the roads clean up here and I get a chance to make a nice bracket I will use an open element filter.
