Dell XP 10" netbook, it was like 299$ and gets it done. I keep it in the car as a dedicated tuning computer. Runs ECUflash, Evoscan and Virtual dyno happily.

dell xp

Thanks for the input- I'll look into the Dell
some of the guys on here have mentioned a cheaper computer being slow-
how long does it take to switch a map with the Dell XP?

Also, thinking about going into a mac store to talk to some people in person
as I don't know if the bootcamp, vmware fusion- windows xp options are just as
viable or not?
Cheers again,
Jim

I forgot to mention to you that if you just want map switching, that can be accomplished without having to switch maps with a computer. tephra v5 and tephra v7 can both be setup to switch maps with a simple toggle switch.

Thanks Again

Thanks MrFred- that would sure be nice and simple : )

Right Now, in Ecuflash, I am now able to change maps, however when I read from ecu- I am unable to save the current Rom- a screen pops up that says,

"There was an error writing this ROM file. See the message log for details."
not sure what to do next?

I am a Mac fan, but w/ tuning, off to Ebay for a Panasonic toughbook. They can take some abuse and Pentium 3's or better are pretty cheap now ($250ish)

If you are referring to the "business" tough models, they are not so tough.

No disrepect, but care to share more durable? My dell I had was getting banged up (in, out, sliding around, backpackin', etc). Wondered if it might go blue screen one day........

I've never had one in my hands, but I expect that the "rugged" tough Panasonics are very durable. They are the one with the thick, rubber hide on them. The business tough models (what I had) are only meant to be a little more sturdy than a regular laptop.
