Cat Converter VS Test Pipe

Cat Converter VS Test Pipe
Not sure if this should be in the newbie section but figured ide ask. Currently I have an evo with a high flow cat I have an evo 8 with a 10.5 05 turbo on it with a full exhaust and everything else is stock (minus fuel pump). Its making 311whp and about 315 tq so says virtual dyno. The issue Im having is that it likes to knock up top with just 8 degrees of timing and now Im only running about 6-7 6000rpm-7000rpm in the 230 load range which In my opinion from previous cars seems very conservative. Is the reason the back pressure and heat from the cat? or could it be because Im on stock intercooler and piping? Just curious I can normally get abit more timing on evo 8's then that.

ever done a direct comparison?
i went from a megan resonated test pipe to a berk high flow cat. after dialing the tune back in because my load readings dropped a tad, according to virtual dyno im running within 5whp and lost just shy of 10 ft/lbs on 24psi. Im running exactly the same timing i was (this is all on a 9).
the benefit is my rear bumper is no longer stained, my car doesnt smell of fuel all the time, and my head doesnt explode when taking long highway trips.
it is much more likely the OP's issue is do to the stock IC than the cat.

Interesting. I wont lie i enjoy not smelling thosefumes and the car is very hush hush. And the car is not down on power. I just feel it shouod be able to run more timing and be safe. So..... i have access to a cheap ebay 3.5 inch ic ill throw that on and test it out
