I'm in a very similar situation, which seems to be the same for many evos. One day before a track day I decided I would try all fuel & timing possibilities to try and get rid of similar knock I was getting during spoolup. I tried both lowering and increasing timing by 5° compared to my regular map. No difference in knocksum. I then tried richening and leaning out by .5 AFR compared to my regular map. Still no difference. The only thing I didn't mess around with was MIVEC. I guess that'll be on the to-do list when my turbo gets back from MAP.

I have had a heck of a time. I even made a thread about s2 cams and knock tables to see if it was typically needed adjustment. JB suggested not, and my springs/ret's are audibly quiet too but upgraded on my setup from GSC. I think this S2 cams are just picky about mivec and ign timing. I did try to take out some mivec advance with better results. Ill post my map not fully tuned VE wise but getting there.

i have started smoothing and taking out some advance at low loads on the mivec, and the ign timing. My KPA load table may be different from yours, so keep that in mind.

ty 211ratsbud i feel a little better about my timing map its still more pulled than yours but not far off. your mivec is a little tamer in some areas and more aggressive in others so i might give it a shot. i see u messed with the knock threshold instead of the multiplier so i might combine ur threshold change and my 5% increase of the multiplier.

If you are getting compressor surge (which can be interpreted as knock) down low where this is happening then yes, the MIVEC can be too aggressive.

BOV will do it, rattles from exhaust, noisy lifters, valvefloat, etc.

I am off speed density atm to fix the knock. (I was in the process of doing speed density when I got tired of chasing 2 problems at once.)
