Fuel Pressure regulator gone bad?

Hi all,

I'm driving an Airtrek Turbo with a Walbro 255, Evo 9 TD05, 3" TBE, after market intake, Evo 5 intake manifold and FPR and Bosch 1000cc (ID1000 type) injectors.

I'm having issues getting the injectors setup right and the only way I can get the car to run ok is set the scaling very low (770 currently) and the latency really high otherwise the car runs super lean at idle (17-18 AFR)

I had an Airtrek manifold and Subaru STI Pink (565cc) injectors on previously with the Airtrek FPR and had no problems (SFT and MID / LFT trims all within +/- 5%)but since changing to the Evo intake and FPR (quite old looking) and the bigger injectors my tune is all other the place.

If the fuel pressure regulator is bad can it cause really low pressure or do they normally go high when they fail? It's like the rail is only seeing 25-30psi of pressure at idle or something weird...

I know it's not an evo but it's nearly there (just fitted an Evo 4 5 speed trans too) but I've read merlins guide to setting up injectors over and over and can't figure it out!

Cheers

What kind of fuel are you running on this set up? The scaling doesn't look that far off if its 93 octane or its equivalent.

Running 98RON here in New Zealand - pretty sure thats similar to your 93 Octane

I would have thought the scaling for these should be around 835 / 860?

The current latency vs Battery V numbers are:-
5.664
2.664
1.872
1.224
.888
.432

I havent touched MAF scaling at all from factory, not sure if I need to adjust this or not.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge, otherwise your wasting your time and fuel trying to dial in the injectors

Thanks Phil, I'll need to get connectors so I can plumb in the gauge I have between the feed line and fuel rail. Will reply back once I have tested.

I'm running 93 octane with fic 1100 high z injectors. My settings are as follows:
Scaling 975 (yeah yours is really low at second thought)
Lat:
5.352
3.36
1.992
1.392
1.032
0.84
0.72
Trims are perfect and no complaints at all other then how loud they are. I do have an afpr though set to 42psi @ idle with the vaccum line attached.

Finally got some fuel pressure readings (ended up buying a Tomei FPR) and I have it set at approx. 43.5 psi @ idle with vacuum line disconnected, it drops to 38-39 psi @ idle with it connected.
I set the scaling back to 860 and latency to figures I found for ID1000's to use as a starting point and still have the same issues as before (super lean at idle - up to 20 AFR) so doesn't look like it's an issue with fuel pressure...

Any other ideas?
Do I need to tweak any other areas of the injector tables in Ecuflash?

Could it just be an issue with these injectors and they only really flow like a 750cc ?? they are not ID1000's, but another knockoff of the Bosch that's been modified like the ID1000's.

Check my previous statement, you're right, its 39 with the vaccum line attached. My bad. As far as your issue it sounds like you have everything covered so maybe you got a bad injector? Did you modify anything else at the same time you did the injectors?

At the time of injector install I also changed the intake manifold to an Evo 5/6 along with matching 5/6 fuel rail and FPR. It really does sound like over spec'ed injectors (not really 1000cc flow) or at least one faulty one in the set.

I guess I can go back to where I got them and see if they can get flow tested, or I try another whole set.

Your not measuring AFR at the tail pipe are you?

No, I've got a Zeitronix Wideband permanently mounted about 800mm from the turbo outlet under the car.

From what I've been reading it sounds like I might just have a few vacuum leaks somewhere around the intake manifold (swapped over when I did the bigger injectors) so I'll test for those and a boost leak check to see what I find.

Brand of the FPR? It's a Tomei as above, injectors are XSpurt 1000cc based on Bosch EV14 like ID1000's.

JRainwater - with the FIC injectors, do you keep the original lower injector seal / seat or do you replace them? I'm running the factory Evo seal and the larger O-ring above that.. maybe that's causing a leak?
