Locked out
I almost never post threads and always search, but everything is leading me to the "unlocker" at this point..which is the point of this thread.
Short story:
- Flashing a ROM last night and ran into an error at around 70% completion. Locked out of ECU. I checked fuses, hooked up battery charger, reinstalled ecuflash &drivers...wiggle wires..everything. I then checked the immobilizer code of the rom I was loading (one I have tinkered with and loaded 20-30 times) and somehow there is no immobilzer code on this last version!? I don't know how that happend. Anyway, my car won't start.
-I tried to register on the aktive Matrix forum to download a copy of ECU Unlocker
but there's nothing but a blank page and after trying 2 different email accounts, nothing has shown up, even in the spam boxes.
Can someone PM or email me a copy of unlocker? Pretty please?

Just disable the immobilizer with the periphery bit 3 in FAA and it will start.
It should be defined for your rom already if not just check the evo wiki page by logic.

I'm not that advanced. Could you dumb that down for me?
I just want to gain access to my ecu again.
Okay..let me give it a shot:
- I go to "ECU Periphery0 (FAA) bits"
- change "bit.3" from "1" to "0".
- and I should be able to load this ROM up?

Notes from the site:
>>>> I FOUND A HUGE BUG, DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION!
*** START THIS PROGRAM BEFORE YOU RUN ECUFLASH
*** LEAVE IT RUNNING! START ECUFLASH
*** DO NOT CLOSE OR EXIT THE PROGRAM UNTIL AFTER YOUR DONE WITH ECUFLASH
It should allow ECUFlash to initialize and read locked ECUs
*** THIS CURRENT VERSION REQUIRES .NET 2.0 ***
Great tool to back up your maps, remember this does nothing to licensing or unique identifiers embedded in your locked ECU's, this is for BACKING UP YOUR MAPS ONLY.
Please let me know if it does not work correctly, I threw this together in a few minutes.

Same thing happened to me the other day. Bad block about 70% through, I think the battery voltage dropped as it was a small deika or whatever battery and the customer had been listening to the stereo with the car off for 40 mins before I got it on the dyno.
It locked me out, all I got after was "no response to any known code", tried unlocker, tried battery tender/charger/whatever. No go.
I've flashed these ecu's probably over 5,000x and this is the first time something like this has ever happened.
I ended up putting another Evo 9 ECU in and was able to flash it fine so something is obviously wrong with that ECU now.
Is there a bench process for Evo 8/9 ECU's?

I'm pretty sure there is let me look at this more closely.
GST can you give me the error it produces when trying to write the file?

This is the error it gave when it first failed. After this whenever I try to read or write it does the same thing as if the INIT was switched and you weren't using the unlocker tool.

Seems like the kernel recognized a problem and is preventing future attempts.
You could try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and try it again.

Okay..been battling for a couple of hours. Thanks for the unlocker, Roadspike, but a friend came through in a pinch (tkklemann).
Unlocker worked...allowed me to go in and load a flash with the correct immobilizer code. I patted myself on the back.... and then..
NOTHING! Still only cranking over with no spark.
Must have tried a dozen flashes..check some more fuses.
Then I pulled the #1 fuse in under the dash (ignition coil). It was blown. So I put a fresh one in..patted myself on the back and then...
NOTHING!!! I can hear the fuel pump working, but nothing.
Do you think it is possible that you can flood a fuel injection engine like that..cranking it without spark?
While I wait for an answer on that, I am going to pull the COPs off and check the plugs. Hopefully it's something as dumb as that. I really, really am getting desperate. Never had anything like this happen where I couldn't figure a way out.

I tried that. Nothing. Pull the COP, left a sparkplug in the boot and commanded the spousal unit to crank the car over. No spark. It's not priming the fuel pump anymore, either. There's no friggin way that it was running dandy last night...then blew an ignition coil fuse..locked the ecu up on me.. and now I don't have spark (after replacing fuse..and trying stock coils)..and probably not fuel either. FML.
Gonna do a hail mary and load a really old file on it and disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. Hopefully this isn't a CAS or CPS. I'm having a hard time believe that it's anything but electronic at this point seeing as it all happened after my flash screwed up last night.

All Hail the HAIL MARY!!!
Short of it all...it's back to normal. I flashed a much older file into the ecu and it started up and drove me around like the idiot I am. Also..the unlocker is like a bolt cutter on a zip tie. The ECU never had a prayer..I was a bustin' in and there was no error gonna stop me.
I want to update this thread so if someone else runs into this, it will help them out (hate it when threads dead-end and the OP doesn't post what fixed his problem).
Cause#1:
Make sure that you have some decent juice (volts) flowing through your car during a flash or it will stop the upload and cause some type of corruption/lock-age.
Cause#2: As it has been stressed before, make sure your immobilizer code is in your Rom file. I swear I didn't touch it, but somehow it was cleared out. You can disable it, but not if you are locked out of the ECU (my case).
Cause#3: (this is what I think did it for me) In the "misc" area, just below immobilizer code, there is a "Init code". Somehow..mine was wiped clear to "0000". All of my previous rom files had "0001". I don't even know what it does ('member..I'm an ECU noob), but puttig it back to "0001" was the last thing I did and cured everything.
And with that, I want to thank Roadspike and Tkklemann for helping me out. I hope someday this helps someone.
