I made 347awhp/ 365lb ft

with HKS air filter, o2 housing, TBE, and Mr. Fred's ECU based boost control. 2006 Evo IX on 92 oct. 28psi tapering to 19 at redline. If I could've got my boost to hold better I would've made more power (need to adjust wastegate actuator rod.)

Is 26 psi the new boost level to tune cars especially on 92 and lower Octane? All this time I thought 25 psi was a bit much on the stock Turbo and I run strictly 93.

All cars are diffrent. Why he picked 26psi as his desired boost level is beyond me. Being that he was running something close to a 12.0 afr, my guess is that he could have richened it up some and turned the boost even higher.

Thanks Remy,

When I got my car tuned, I was running 10.2 afr @ 25PSI.

It was tuned on 93 oct. As for the 26 psi: I didn't arbitrarily pick that number. My tuner decided on the boost level. The tune was completely safe (as I saw the AFR and knock counts) and made good power, so I was satisfied.

You got some really good gains for your set-up, congrats.

I really have no idea how these guys are pulling race gas numbers on race gas tune .... but with pump gas.

Maybe they tune with knock. I always tune knock free.

I do calibration for my regular 8-5 job. It's all in the process. I spent 4 hours street tuning my car and 2.5 hours on the chassis dyno with all of my data analysis macro's previously written.

Boost pressure isn't a limitation, cylinder pressure is. I would run 60 pounds of boost if the turbo could do it...boost is really irrelevant. The amount of cylinder pressure you produce is what counts. I run 28-30psi at peak torque because... it doesn't knock and I'm 3 degrees back of MBT! Perfectly safe as long as you're usign the same grade/quality of fuel.

I would say there's tuning your own personal car...and then there is tuning for someone you don't know. I'm very responsible with my car and when/if it hiccups I have the car pull lots of timing (which lets me know there is something wrong)...I immediately log the issue and correct it. If I were to tune your car and you weren't paying attention or didn't know that the engine missed... you would continue to unknowingly do damage to your car. To prevent this... I would make your car excessively RICH and pull 3 degrees of timing out of my map so that you didn't come back to me complaining that you tried to "clear out the miss" with your right foot and you ended up popping the hg. Then you'd complain to me and everyone else that I'm a shoddy tuner etc. Or...the other side to this "safe tune" is that some hack is copying other people's tunes, cleaning up the AFR's, and making sure it doesn't knock in the 2-3 "tuning pulls" that they do.

Just my opinion on the matter.

I saw all of the knock counts. My tuner has a good track record with Evos in South Florida. I don't see what the problem is..

Friend gave me his Injen hardpipe kit (his Evo is out of commission). Feels like I might have picked up a few more ponies. I won't be getting re-tuned for a month or so.
