My tuning experience with mellon

My tuning experience with mellon

First, I would like to say that Mellon is more then a great tuner. He is
a great person. When Mellon takes on a tune he is very concerned about your
needs and the car's needs. But to all my Evo bros
that do know, and don't know, and will know, Persistence is the key!

Now to the good stuff;
Everything was install by me and a friend
.20 over
Wiseco pistons 9:1
Eagle rods
Acl race bearings
Balance shaft eliminator
Procam Tomei 270
Stock head
Stock throttle body
Stock intake manifold
Super tech single
Aero motive full rail
PTE 1000
Buschur 35r 63.
44 tial waste
Forge bov
Forge bc
Ebay intercooler
Injen upper/lower

The first couple of pulls we noticed that the car was having issues
holding boost at wot. We eventually looked under the hood and Mellon
noticed that my boost controller was mounted horizontally on the cam sensor
and was curious that the ball in the boost controller was stuck. So the next
pull I was around 6k and it held 22pounds and right at 7k it spiked to 35 psi all
the way to 8k. I must say for a second or two I was like woooo! Mellon
looks at me and says That's the way that S#$% should feel. It felt good
making 500+ for a few seconds after the boost spiked to 35 psi. We looked
under the hood and noticed that my boost controller was no longer connected
to my cam sensor. It had broken off and was upside down. So with trial an
error we decided to mount the boost controller vertically and and you can
see the difference. The car did top the scales at a little over 466 with a
few counts of knock but I'm happy with 450 with no knock.

O I almost forgot! There are 3 things I would Suggest when getting your
car tuned By the great Mellon.

1. Make sure your car is solid of engine gremlins.
2. Make sure pipes and etc are secure. (You will be in wot often and
stuff will pop off.)
3. Make sure you ask him for a ride in the BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!((Those
clips on youtube don't do that car justice!!! I repeat!!!! The clips
on street fire don't do that car justice!!! What so EVER!!

After those 2 things lol. Your car will be SOLID! Street tunes are the
S&*^!

Future mods:
BR PORTED INTAKE MANI
BR PORTED THROTTLE BODY
BF 272.
That will get me where I want to be. =)

Right on!!

We've been chasing a low boost at redline too and my Hallman is on its side. This has me wanting to put that **** vertical and see what happens.

thanks for the review Kenny and I'm glad you made the trip! I can't wait to see what the next round of mods does for you.

p.s. maybe we'll put some q16 in my evo next time and see what 40psi + feels like

That's why we have a strict pre-dyno checklist for our customers to follow it's the most frustrating thing to diagnose a blazing hot car strapped to the dyno!

Congrats to you and the new power Mellon know what to do with these cars on the stock ecu!

It's funny how much you can tell a diff of just 5psi of boost let alone more......

yep, we made quite a few trips in limp mode back to the garage to do repairs...made for a very long day, but persistence pays off. I feel like there's more power in the car with some efficiency mods and I hope we can get to the 500awhp+ area next time.
