574whp Stock block 92 octane 3586

Long ago my grandfather (who built circle track motors) used to say that any mods you did would feel good for 30 days tops. In that time you get used to the car again and it stops feeling as fast as it did when you first got done.

Well after almost 20 years of playing with everything from dirtbikes to domestics it still seems to hold true. My car was lots of fun for about 2 weeks. I put a triple in it after the Magnus since the Exedy twin has been on the way out for awhile. Railing on the car it felt good but 559 lasted only as long as I wasnt thinking about it.

Last night I got the urge to really see how far the timing and boost will go on 92 before it really is at the limit. I baselined the car quickly and was surprised to see 517whp at 27.5. I must have turned it down a little more than I thought after the last set of pulls. A quick twist of the knob, a little better warm up, and the car made 565 at 28.5psi. "Wow!!" I thought this thing is really liking the air tonight lets give it some more boost. I had fed some timing into it prior so I know it wasnt just making 50whp per pound. At 29.5 it only went up to 566, so I did put it 30.5 and again 566. Right before I decided the dyno must be broke I decided to throw some more timing at it:

Boost drops with timing, so the boost was back down to 29.5-29.7 which is more or less where it was at 559. The main difference is the 2* of timing between the two. There was some scattered knock during spool which dropped the torque but the overlay between the stock intake the magnus is the same otherwise until it really starts pulling and the Magnus really takes over:

On 92 there is really nothing left on this turbo with the stock bottom end and head. If I had a ported head so it could breathe easier it would probably make more since I could run more timing and have the increased flow at the same timing. The 2.2 is finally getting some love as I have some time and help to get it finished so we'll see what it does on pump I guess

Enjoy

Aaron

Good work Aaron nice of you to post your step by step adjustments not just a "WOW" thread with some crazy hi hp figure.

Just goes to show how much fine tuning goes on behind the scenes!

And how much #'s can fluctuate.

That's good power. How comfortable are you revving to 8.5k on the stock rods?

I have been doing it for the last 46K, so I would estimate pretty comfortable. I could have a golden goose though so who knows
