I'd lean more towards the BOV than the MBC as the culprit.

That's pretty good power out of the IX turbo. That thing was not really ment to produce anywhere near 400. Your car setup is a bit different than the OP. I'll be at the dyno on Monday with Aaron and we will see what this IX turbo will do!

We crushed this one after a prior dyno day in March. The car put down 421/360 then with a 33psi spike and since we have changed to the big S2 intake cam (278* vs 274*) and a ported head...as well as 9.5:1 bottom end.

I am still not ruling out the BOV though. The MBC was completely cranked so I am going to change that to a Hallman just to see. The thing about is this I made 438whp on our dyno with a similarly setup VIII and a Hallman and ported turbo/18psi WG that was holding 36psi spike and 25 out the top (8k). I would like to point out to anyone that reads this though that its not pressure that makes horsepower but airflow.

*Devils' Advocate * Can you give an example of what you mean here?

I would go, in this order: BBK-XL or SST (just because I want to see what these new turbos can do) Red, or HTA Green!

OP what did you plan to do next? Stock frame? I really like the HTA3586/88! Sick little turbos

Edit: What was the air temp when you dynoed?

Not exactly the example I was looking for but Jake's car (the one Aaron mentioned) spiked 36psi and holds 25psi to 8k and made 438whp. Didnt log boost on the dyno of that one, but in this jpeg you see that we have 2 IXs with similar cams, tuner, SD, etc. and Thomas makes more power at less boost (1/2 pound) and Mike makes alot more torque on the spike.

A stock turbo can only make so much total airflow and boost pressure doesnt necessarily mean more power. Turbo efficiency at a given boost, compression, timing, all of that has more to do with why a car makes power (turbo being the same) not the actual psi.

The easiest way to explain it is why does a 35R at 23psi make more power than a stock turbo at 23psi? Airflow in cfm is significantly greater.

Nice comparison lucas. I think if I had a bit more aggressive cams my topend would shine a bit better. I'm interested to see how my car will do on Monday. I guess Aaron told you I'll be down with all my new mods. Magnus v5, 3.8 Garrett FMIC, Eric's 3" external dump 02 housing, and an EBC. I think it's going to shine but I'll be lowing the boost back down to where ever it stops making power per pound.

Thanks yeah I will be looking into getting the magnus and a stronger waste gate soon with a tial bov, I really want to take this to the track and see how I do. I am looking at either the HTA 3582 or 86 as my next turbo
