AKUMA: 2.4L MAP motor and FP black

This is a car we have had in the shop for a little while now. The motor is a MAP 2.4L and we are running an FP Black. The response is amazing. the power is always under your foot with the added displacement. I am so anxious to get my EVO finished now...lol

Started tuning with the stock ignition, and had some serious spark blow out(to be expected) at 23PSI. Customer added the Spoolin Up kit, and we should be good to go now.

Basically this is the base map, NOT the finished tune on 93 OCT. This is the dyno plot before the spooling up kit. ****KEEP IN MIND OUR DYNO READS VERY LOW***(a GTR made 630HP on our dyno and made 720HP on AMS's dyno for reference) The timing curve has not been modified yet, as it is running 2 deg tapering to 8 at redline on 23PSI, so we have a little ways to go. I will have the car back on the dyno later today, so I will follow up with the numbers.
This is 25.5 PSI pump gas. Running 4 degrees up to 12 degrees by 7500RPM. There is no knock at all and 11.7 tapering to 11.4AFR at redline.

We aligned and corner balanced this car, so we will see how she does at New Jersey Motorsports Park on the 26th of this month...weather permitting.

Actually, I am the tuner. I will turn up the boost today. I was trying to get on the dyno yesterday but it never happened...got too busy. I will get it done this AM. I would not expect more than 420 on pump at 26PSI. This dyno reads low. I have actually invited other tuners/owners to come and put their car on the dyno to see how dramatic the loss is. I am not one to mess around with dyno settings, so I am probably my own worst enemy when it comes to marketing via HP/TQ numbers...lol

Looks good so far John, looking forward to final #s. What spring is in the Hallman? Hallman has a new "stiffer" spring that if you contact them they will send you for free. I have one in my car & it tapers maybe 2 psi by redline. I am also using an FP 25psi WGA, which I'm sure this car has too.

On a dyno jet at 26psi it should hit a little over 500+ hp. So yeah with your low reading dyno I would say more like 460-475 ish. Now race gas (Q16) on a dyno jet should hit over 600+ hp. Are you doing SD tune? What kind of race gas are you going to use if it is a duel map?

Damn John this is a strong build! You going to get it tuned on some race fuel as well to see what she really makes?

I disagree. To hit 500+ you need to see 30PSI. The car is running about 400 on our dyno, which is about 460 on a nearby dynojet. At 25.5 PSI, this makes perfect sense. I have some Q16 here, if the customer allows it, I would like to see 35PSI before he takes it. I am not sure it is in the budget for him though, as this motor has only 900miles on it. I really want to push some boost through her asap.

The Hallman has a stiff spring, but it will still have a natural taper due to the mechanical nature of the MBC.

John

PS. I will offer anyone a few free dyno pulls if there car makes 500HP and if they have a dyno sheet to verify. I would love to do another comparo post. We did one against a local shop, and the same car, same day made 290here and 350 there...lol

Well AWD Motorsports did my 2.4 tune with a FP black and I hit 500hp with 25-26ish psi. It was on their dyno jet. So your dyno has a 60% hp loss vs. A dyno jet? Wow that's a lot.

I can not say for sure the percentage. That is why I have an open invitation to anyone with the right HP and dyno sheet from another shop.

A stage 2 EVO X will make 290 - 300 @ 26PSI. So to say the Black make 100HP more at the same boost, makes sense. Keep in mind, we are just getting into the compressor map on this turbo at this boost level. This is why I feel the FP Green is a better pump gas style turbo for 23 -26PSI. If this customer had meth or better fuel, I would absolutely turn up the boost. On the gas we have available, the tune is knock limited, in other words we can not achieve MBT before a detonation event can/may occur.

The turbo is just an air pump. So a 2.4L motor at X PSI and Y DEG Timing(no MIVEC) and Z AFR should be very close to another car. The dyno is the variable. Again, I am over simplifying...temp/VE/fuel/etc all matter, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, we need to figure out a way to normalize our results to 12 -15% deviation from a DynoJet. That is what Tim(Cobb Surgeline) did on his dyno. It makes sense from a marketing standpoint.

Regards,

John
