STM Tuning experience. TBE, UICP, LICP, Filter, Pump IX MR.
I just wanted to take a few minutes to post up my tuning results as there aren't too many "stockish" Evos left out there.
I've heard plenty of good and bad things about nearly every tune shop out there, and good and bad things about members here, as well as EvoM in general. In the end, all you can do is make a decision that you think is the best move and hope for the best.
My car is a 2006 USDM 9 MR. ~48,000 miles. 93 Octane pump gas.
My mods are:
1. Buschur TBE with test pipe.
2. Buschur UICP/mini battery.
3. AMS LICP.
4. DW301 Fuel Pump.
5. Vibrant Cone Filter (no airbox).
6. Hallman MBC
7. AEM Wideband and Boost Gauges.
Everything else is stock, or non-pertinent.
First... I'm the 3rd owner. The car was raced at some point because the Brembos are browned (I love that color tho) and it has a CEL delete on it, so I suspected someone had been into the ECU at some point. This was confirmed by Emery, though he suggested that it wasn't anything problematic.
On the Mustang Dyno that they have at the shop, the car ultimately ended up at:
306 AWHP
302 AWTQ
~24 PSI Peak
8000 RPM Redline
5825 RPM 2-Step
Being that numbers on a dyno are relative. The car picked up roughly 90 HP. Though... I'm not certain at what boost level it was at when the MBC was installed (by them right then and there).
The biggest changes are the usability of the power band, and the general smoothness of the car. It pulls very hard (even on the snow tires that the previous owner left me with ). But MOST notably... I used about a half a tank of fuel on my way TO STM, and about an eighth of a tank on the way back! Hellooooooooo my car was rich!
I'd also like to say that despite hearing things from both sides of the spectrum, the crew at STM was nothing but welcoming. Emery (shockingly) represented himself as his website claims he does. He treated the car as if it were his (Cory as well). They answered any and all of my questions without making me feel like a moron, they tuned the car exactly the way I wanted, and were totally cool with me being there in a mostly stock car. They treated me no different than someone stopping in to do a $10,000 build (at least in my opinion).
I can't wait to get it out on the track, and hopefully I'll see those dudes out there.
This is an unsolicited thank you, and hopefully some people will be able to use the numbers/mods as reference.
If people have questions, ask away or feel free to PM me.
Thanks again STM!
Now then... where to get a helmet!
Need to update without my plate #'s.
