Fp red hks 272 results Tamer at 4ws
Just got done tuning my car with Tamer at 4ws and it's been an awesome experience. Tamers an awesome guy, and I also consider him a friend after talking to him nearly every day and tuning with him 3-5 nights a week for the past 3 weeks. I'm not sure how many maps he's sent me over the course of the tune but It's a lot. My car had some issues before we started tuning and we got them all ironed out and the car runs better than it did before. Mods are
Stock block with 112k miles
64mm fp red
Hks 272's
GSC springs retainers
Ets upper lower intercooler piping CAI
3" TBE with 2.5" homemade cutout.
Megan 02 housing
Ported exhaust manifold
Spoolinup COP
Fuel system
Fic 1450s
Walboro 255
Car made 488/407 on around 29psi on e85.
Will post graph later as it's on my buddies laptop who was riding in the passenger seat logging/flashing for me.
On a side note, I'm not really sure the hks cams are as bad as played out to be on here. Seems like a pretty decent choice for a stock block car as you can still hit the magical number of "500/400" And seem more tame on the street than other choices. I'm sure anything over stock motor other cams will shine up top but they seem like a perfect choice for a stock motor/stock frame turbo. Hoping others chime in here about the cams.

Nice Numbers.
I for 1, always liked the way the hks 272 cams came alive in the mid range on a small frame turbo, it's a serious hit / "whack" of tq.
s2's are a great compromise between the 272's / oems down low in the revs, but the s2's make a lot more up top... i have run these cams as well, so this is from personal experience.
enjoy the car while its still together!

I also LOVE the HKS 272's. I bought my evo with them already installed, and now that I'm tuned on e85 and high boost, the midrange kick is very impressive. Paired with a stock framed turbo on stock block, I think HKS 272's are great and affordable.

well, you got the affordable part right at least. with so many better options available today, i don't see why anyone would go HKS

OP, I'm getting ready to tune a very similar setup (FP Red, HKS 272's, all other supporting bolt ons) but on 93 oct.
I chose the HKS 272's for two reasons. 1, I'm builing an engine on the side on my pace and wanted something I can drop in my current setup and not have to worry about springs/retainers and 2, I got 'em for dirt cheap .
I would not use the HKS 272's on my anticipated setup, but for now they are better than stock.

Glad to see others who enjoy this affordable cam as well! And I have ARP's, and a VRSF 4" intercooler. I knew I was forgetting something! The dang intercooler lol. And I also wouldn't use the hks's in a serious build for sure. And I know that kelfords and s2's are "better". Just I don't think the hks cams are near as bad as a lot of people think on here.
