Pure Drive Performance Tuned Evo VIII HTA86 762 HP 500 TQ

Travis (aka TurboTravis) called me out of the blue looking for a new tuner. He called me because he wanted a tuner who would take the time to discuss important issues over the phone. Right away we hit it off. He is very meticulous when it comes to his Evo and expects the same from his tuner. To say the least I was very excited to tune a high HP Evo.

I quickly realized Travis really takes care of business. For example, after getting the initial idle/cruise tune done, he changed his spark plugs before I even mentioned it. We also had some issues with fluctuating AFR. He got to work finding the problem. At first we thought it was the vented catch can or a boost leak. Checked and fixed all that immediately. Maybe it was the extreme humidity. Turns out it was E85 injector gunk. He quickly made an injector cleaner station. Lastly, he ordered a CDI as soon as break up on high boost was a problem. Whatever it needs he jumps into action to correct it. Love it!

It’s on a SD dual tune on E85, one low boost and one kill mode! It’s putting down 731 hp on main and 762 hp on Alt Map! I’m very impressed with his set up! I’m looking forward to his trap speeds in the near future.

This will be the final, for now. Once he gets his CDI we'll get some higher numbers. The main is meant to be 34psi and the Alt map will be at 40-41 psi in the future. Will keep you posted!

E85 fuel
Speed density
2.0LR, 10.5:1 compression
Curt Brown Head
Buschur FF turbo kit, HTA 86 turbo
Buschur 272 Cams
ID2000s
Buschur DP, -6 fuel line
Driven Intake Manifold
BBK Throttle body NO IAC VALVE
Grimpeed 3 port
Buschur Race FMIC
Tial BOV
Cars weight is accurate. Weighed on 4 corner race scales!

Update: Travis put in the CDI Ignition set up and it's back to tuning! We are very close to finishing the final tune. I need to make some minor adjustments to boost (raise it slightly), but here is the results:

Update 9-17-13: Back at it. The boost is in check (39-40 psi) and CDI is working great! It made some more HP (785 HP), but more importantly it's making more torque earlier!

Christian/PDP is without a doubt the best option for remote tuning an Evo, period. It's been a pleasure working with you and I'm excited to continue once my new ignition arrives!

Why is "low boost" 36psi? Seems like a silly amount to call low boost if " high boost" is only 2-4 PSI higher.

You powder coat your P/S res flat black or rattle can it?

We also refer to the different boost levels as the "main" and "alt" rom, would you approve if we edited the thread to use those terms?

I would just see more usefulness in having a true low and high boost setup. The difference between these just begs the question why? 2 PSI lower boost is insignificant and not a pump gas or auto cross boost level. I am trying to understand the reason behind it. Usually if "low" boost is so high it is because high boost is much higher. Another common example is the min being due to high spring pressure in the wastegate.

I changed the low and high boost modes to Main and Alt. Also explained what our intentions are.

Also, Travis and myself are very disciplined in the quest for high power with safety. I applaud all these tuners who get the highest HP, but you won't generally see that from my tunes. It's not my philosophy. Unless the customer wants the record, I'm not trying for it!

I'm a detailed oriented tuner with a high margine of safety.

Looks amazing. I am never trying to be a jerk. My car is much less impressive. I hit 568/499 at 29psi on a Virtual Dyno tonight. I was shooting for 600 at 30psi.

That's an awesome powerband for an 86. So nice and linear.
