Why be afraid of big turbos?

Identical English Racing SLR2.2 motors, ported heads, GSC S3s, Magnus V5, etc.

Red is Akash's 0.82 V-band single scroll and Blue is Austin's 1.12 twin scroll 7175-

Obviously the 71mm will make more power and like all big turbos needs more boost. Look very closely at 5100rpm though and see the magic.

so the twin scroll reached 45ish psi as fast as the single scroll hit 37ish psi? that would be intense!

That is very impressive spool for a 7175 on 2.2
Can you please show the graph with time on the X-axis instead of rpm?

But 5000+ RPM for full boost sucks in the first place?

I will agree though, if you are going to settle for full boost past 5000RPM in the first place, just go GT42R size.

Only thing I don't like about this thread is that it makes my setup looks weak. :}

While I do agree with you, a 4800 rpm power band is something most can only dream of

From what some of the FWD drag car guys are doing, this car would likely pick up some top end going to a SS turbine setup. It would definitely come at the expense of response though. At that level, a few guys have shown the TS housing is too restrictive and going over to the Tial SS housings on the GT45 hybrids is worth a decent amount of power.

Comes back to the balance though, could you simply go up in size with the TS, match the response of the smaller SS and still make more top end??? The guys I mention above are turbo size limited so going to the SS turbine housing is the only answer really as a larger TS setup won't fit in the rules.

dreamers dont count because they have never experienced big powerband. big powerband is fun if it starts early.
having 200tq at 4000rpm is about as painful as it gets for a streetcar.
