Omar's 500whp 5858 - 92 octane
Omar has had an interesting and rapid build on his Evo IX in the 10 months he has owned it. All the normal BPU and 360whp on the stock turbo. This was fun for a little while and then came the 5858 kit. Initially on stock cams the car made 440/360 at 26.5psi. Again this wasnt enough for long and 5 months later it was time to do S2s and retune.
After having conferred with an Aussie client I found it odd that someone had told him stock cams were the "only" choice up to 530whp. This wasnt a back to back test but when you look at the dyno sheet you will notice that few things changed between stock cams and the S2s -
A 60whp gain, faster spool, and the ability to run boost out the top, all added up to a win in this case. Corrected to corrected the spread is even larger -
So as you can see at peak power the car is up 82whp with only a 2psi increase at 7800rpm. 2 pounds didnt do that, the increased VE and the ability to run a degree more timing with the additional airflow definitely did. Whether its on a stock turbo or turbo kit, cams will make a large difference to power and what the car is capable of.
