Tuning for Pops and Bangs on Overrun and Engine Braking

Hi all
I recently got my evo tuned (Power FC) and I would like it to pop and bang on overrun and engine braking. My old skyline used to do this and it was a great noise, is it inherent in the engine, or can it be tuned in?
Sure it is probably not for best performance, overfueling or something, but race car?

Does anyone have any experience with what needs to be added to my fuel or ignition maps to get this effect? And what would I be sacrificing?

Engine setup is stock with just bolt ons and a TME turbo (large fuel system and ignition). Control is via PowerFC and I have a FC Datalogit as well.

Also if it is possible to adjust the maps to get what I want, would it need to go back on the dyno or is something that can be changed without the need for another dyno session ($$$)?

Thanks!!

I hear that if you throw tons of timing and reduce the fuel by 75% across the board, it will give you pops and bangs.
How many pops and bangs per rev you ask? Enough to cure your rice sickness.

I thought that symptom was from the old-school-pick-a-carb-and-forget-it days.

Turn off decel fuel cut. Then when you are in decal mode, it will still dump fuel, and as long as there is ignition timing it should pop and run very rich on decal.

So you can also alter your ignition map so that when you are in decal it will run lower timing to help burn the fuel in the exhaust.

You can also setup antilag, and just tweak the settings.

So the reason people are talking **** is because when your exhaust pops on decal it means your car is not tuned well at all. However to each there own, and with some simple changes you can get the desired results.

thanks for your helpful reply

I have a FC datalogit so I can switch between maps etc. maybe I will have this as just an option.

sounds like my car is tuned well then since it doesn't pop and bang .. and these small changes wouldn't affect performance

I suppose its sort of like a lumpy unstable idle from big cams. makes the car sound more aggressive and mean. but yeah each to their own. thanks again for your reply

I was just messing with you.

Just add fuel where you want to hear it.
