Here are some trunk weights:

Robispec hood: 9.9 pounds
trunk: 9.5 pounds
trunk skin: 4.4 pounds

VIS carbon fiber hood: 21.6
VIS carbon fiber trunk: 11.9

STOCK EVO hood: 20.2
Stock EVO trunk with no wing: 22.5
Stock EVO tunk with wing: 28.8

I've had some of the lightweight hoods/trunks on my RS, while the fitment was good the super light stuff is not very rigid, the hoods flex a lot.

I ended up putting all my stock parts back on my car this last year.

David,

Do you think if someone where to cut the supports on the stock hood & trunk they would be to weak and flex and bend them up?

Or

it would be a waste of time on the amount saved.

Yes, the stock parts will be weak and bend and a complete waste of good parts. Please don't do that!

LOL that was a funny reply i was just asking so others can hear what Master David has to say. Since there are people out there who would do such a thing!

Have a good question about how much does it cut off in weight if you acid dip the car?

I don't know, I've never acid dipped a chassis before. I'd guess 75 pounds would be possible. It gets rid of a lot of crap from seam sealer/sound deadener and undercoating.

Best bet is to go to a old school shop who do hot rodes. they mosly do acid dipping. just note you have to strip the hole car down to nothing. thats a lot of work. and i know if you bring car like that should be around 300$ but if you do not do all the work thats where it will cost a ton of money. and note acid dipping will make the metal thiner. so going to want to get a nice cage in there after that. and then also need a paint job so will cost what ever a local painter will do it for. 1000$ for a half way good job. but if just a body should be cheap no need for pre and tape just paint.

yea i never heard of issues either but i recall watching an AMS video of there drag car and they had a rear camera mounted setup that looked out the back window. it looked like the trunk was about to rip off from all the flex. i dont know who made that trunk though.

I just know you where going to make that comment about AMS but i didnt want to say anything.

AMS trunk i believe has no what so every supports really like the robi spec one. so there is flex when getting up to speeds but the AMS drag car. and good CF can flex some thats why so nice.

i was not bashing anyone here either. i just did not want a trunk like that on my car you know. i understand though and it makes sense they probably cut out the inner structure of there cf trunk.
