the pass air bag on my scale said 7.3lbs. i was told it was 6lbs. so im happy with that.
as for the bar there is so much that can come off it and not loose any of its ability to hold what it needs to hold. the problem with that straight piece posted above is its 1 size. what i mean by that is the stock bar is 2 sizes. the passenger side part is smaller then the driver's side. so just re welding the brackets and stuff back on will not work out properly. ''i dont think it will''
i am going to order both sizes i need in something light. maybe some thin wall chromoly or something. and then weld everything back to its location that i need to reuse for mounting.
as for the wiring behind the dash. i started with that. i just removed all my dumb gauges and turbo timer and wideband. im to ''ricer'' to let that stuff go so ill just shorten everything and while the dash is out i will run everything properly and make it very neat looking.
as for the steering column. i got a few idea's.
o yea. i had Chinese food for dinner. it was delivery and every time i order from this place i know my food suck's. but im so damn lazy to drive 5 minutes to the good Chinese place i rather complain and order it haha.

i really wonder what my girlfriend thinks of me when she looks at me with all the crap i do. from my modded rear sub frame and now this dash bar i can only imagine her thoughts.
stock bar 20.8lbs. 15 minutes of evodan modding 18.8lbs. all i did was remove a few things i dont need. i still have a few things i can do before i send it off to have the main bar remade and welded all back together. i bet in the end i can get it down to 15lbs and maybe more. not to shabby for a bar that will remain 100% useable. every bit counts. i still need to run a 9 second pass.

The majority of the weight in that bar looks like it's in the mounting plates on the ends and the steering column.
For those looking to stay in a class though, I would bet changes to the steering column puts you into a different class. I'm really considering biting the bullet, dropping 200 pounds (doors and steering column) the easy way and heading to a different class.
As for new ideas, I've got a couple that I'm currently working on that I haven't seen done yet. One of them will reduce unsprung weight by about 20 pounds. Another drops about 10 pounds off the engine. I've got materials coming for both and I'll post up when the prototypes are functional.
I'm after weight in two main areas, weight that moves relative to the chassis, and weight infront of the firewall. The back is where weight is going if I can move it out of the front but still need it.
