RS - Front Door Speaker Mount Tip

The RS has the holes for the front speakers punched in the door and the four small 3/4" square holes for the speaker mounting clips.

They do not install the speaker mounting plastic snap in clips. With no local Mitsu dealer around here I was out of ideas for easy mounting of the 6 1/2" speakers with my ebay adapter rings.

I remembered the Bell 00458-1A License fasteners that I got at Walmarts. They are $0.97 for a pack of four.

They are four black plastic squares with screws designed to snap into a square hole.

They snap right into the Evo speaker mounting holes and lined up perfectly to the Ebay adapter rings. Use the supplied screws and tighten them down.

You might want to use a little foam tape behind the speakers since the face of the clips is about 3/32" above the sheet metal of the door, that will insure a good seal.

Do not over tighten or they will spin in the holes.

I imagine you could get the clips at mitsu, but I don't think they will sell four with screws for $0.97.

Two buck and you have your speakers mounted.

I hope this makes somebodys install easier.

You do not need the hand crank tool... I found it easier to simple use a right angle pick...

Could you elaborate on this? Do you mean to remove the plastic trim ring around the hand crank where it is connected to the door panel (presumably to keep out dirt, etc)?

After you remove this, is it easy to remove the door panel? Or is there some sort of "C-clip" after that? Could you tell me the best way to remove the door panel on the RS? Will be trying it tomorrow. Thanks!

If you have an RS you will need the plastic plugs for the front.

Rears have holes partly punched you can force a sheet metal screw into them.

Give me a break guys.

I took the trouble to post and gave p/n's.

Imagine a square piece of black plastic, now push it in the square hole, got the picture?

Fellas.. Here's the part that mitsuatb is referring to: http://www.bellautomotive.com/asp/pr...s.asp?id=23889

The black things go into the RS speaker mounting holes, which are pretty large. The screw to mount the actual speaker goes into the black Bell thing. I tried it on my RS as per his method and it worked perfectly. Thanks mitsuatb!

I bought some 6-1/2"s (also from Wal-Mart) and they are a bit too small to properly fit the factory hole. So I fabricated a ghetto fabulous bracket out of some sheetmetal (didn't go Ebay adapter route).

Didn't mind 'cause SQ kind of takes a backseat when you drive an RS with minimal insulation.
