service around here goes for 200-700 depending on what you need.

i would suggest you call your local car audio shops and ask them who does the best alternator work. call around until you here the same name a couple of times.
Yup hes right that would be your best bet to get a respin or rebuild alternator if your short on cash

Honestly I would seek a couple diffrent routes before doing an alternator, for your case I dont think its needed....try doing the big three first then try adding a small kinetic to the trunk...most of the time alternators(high output) have a lower amperage at idle then stock....here is a link...on a small system like yours it should solve all dimming problems...

OK guys,

I am in the same boat as you, so I contacted a few people. Here's the info I got... I personally think it's pretty sweet... you let me know..

Our alternator will directly replace the stock alternator, and interface directly to your car’s computer. No need for brackets or messing with the wire harness. The only change you will make is the output from the alternator to the battery. We recommend 4 gauge or larger.
Here are the specs:

DIRECT FIT (no bracket/harness fabrication, DIRECT BOLT IN)
$649 (no core)
Turn on speed (500 RPM)
Idle output (120amps)
output at 1500 RMP (150amps)
Charge Voltage set point (14.4V)
Rated output (2400Va) 167amps @ 14.4V
Weight 18lbs

This is all from www.highoutputalternator.com

I'm getting this... and a mini yellow top...

I'm going to be doing it myself. I just got my evo 2-3 weeks ago, and have driven it a total of less than an hour (it was delivered on a Sunday at 9pm, put it in a garage, and flew out of town 5am the following Monday). I pick it up on the 27th and drive it back to my temp home in WI.. see "longest test drive" in Off Topic for the story..

When I get it to WI, I will be doing the install. The whole stereo is sitting in boxes:

Head unit:
Kenwood XXV-05V single DIN 7" fold out 25th aniversary display with built in DVD, 5.1 dolby surround, TV, MP3 playback, gold terminals, blah blah blah.

Accessories:
Orbital double DIN dash kit with AC relocation
Kenwood IPod adapter
Kenwood Garmen Nav system
Sirius module
diversity TV antenna's
Ridged plastic speaker baffles (to protect the deck speakers from the sub's waves, and the door speakers from any water in the doors)

Amps:
Alpine F550 400x4 component amp
Alpine F250 bridged 100X2 amp (powering center channel and Bass Kickers)
Alpine M650 600X1 Sub Amp

Speakers
Diamond Audio 6.5" component speakers with 1" silk dome tweeters (4)
Alpine single DIN center channel

Subs:
(2) JL Audio 10W3v2-d2 10" subs running 300W each (custom enclosures)
(2) Aura Pro Bass Kickers mounted to base of front seats

I've seen other's sub setups... nothing I really fell in love with, I want to design something that keeps alot of trunk with a stealth apearance

the reason I am going with this head unit, is because when it's folded in, it looks plane jane, but it has so many features. I love a stealth apearance, keeps the theifs from breaking my windows to steal my stereo, only to find out I have an alarm
