Keeping OEM Sub

I have an IX that comes with a sub in the trunk and when I installed my new deck the installer said when you put a new deck in and run the wires to the stock amp from the deck you cant use the stock sub anymore ? Not sure if he was Bull**** me but I was wondering if I could still use the sub and how I would go about doing it because I want to get rid of the big bulky sub box I have in the trunk now....Any ideas ?

I can be done. I have an VIII and I installed a new deck, along with my ipod and retained the use of the whole factory system. Soundgate makes a harness the allows you to plug an aftermarket deck into the signal wires running to the stock amp. You will need that adapter and a couple of splitters that you can get at Radio Shack. Mine works just fine and sounds even better than it did with the stock deck.

+1 used the soundgate adapter with my VIII that had the SSL. If you have a Tweeter local to you they carry soundgate products and can order it for you.

Alright well I already have speaker wires run from the head unit into the stock amp so what would I have to change around to wire that to the head unit, like where does that plug in and what wires need to be run and such .... ?

As far as speaker connections are concerned, the RCA plugs from the Soundgate adapter connect to the RCA preamp outputs of the new head unit (2 sets of preamp outputs required). The DIN plug of the Soundgate adapter connects to the DIN plug of the cable that runs to the OEM amplifier under your seat. It's that simple. Once connected, the amp will continue to send sound to the sub and all four speakers.

If your installer bypassed the factory amp or rewired it, then this approach may not work.
