my pics that I have online right now... I'l post more better ones later.
the setup:
eclipse 8053
focal polyglass 6.5 components
JL 12w6v2
2 zapco amps.
optima redtop
zapco simiblink balanced line drivers (no RCA cables in this system)
it's an SQ setup but can still hit about 130db.

I guess it all depends on how much space you need.
I still have the spare tire and can fit a couple suitcases or a bag of golf clubs. anything beyond that just goes on the rear seat.

I just got My system done here are some pix:
Polk Momo 6.5 components
Polk MOMO 500.1
Polk MOMO 400.4
Polk SR 12
Fiberglassed molded A-pillars for tweeters
Trunk Bottom is Fiberglassed refinished with carpet, so when SUBS and amps are taken out the bottom of the trunk looks finished.
Top Piece is 3 pieces of Plywood to protect sub to have fully functional trunk except for doughnut

Just got mine from MConsoliA4's shop and I think its perfect. Just need to find a way to secure it. The trunk hinge is close to box and might keep it in place. but I got a feeling it might slide

Email me the pics at mconsolia4@comcast.net and i'll post them larger for you, how's it sound?? Take the woofer out and put one bolt through the floor, it will hold it.

While the Evo isn't the greatest (what car is?) for acoustics, you would remove 'half your sound' for more detailed sound. You get better imaging by having your sound directed from the front only.

any audiophile SQ setup (where sound quality is the goal) will not use rear speakers.
if you're going for SPL then you might leave them in for additional SPL in the upper freqs. since you're probably overpowering everything else with your subs.
I have an SQ setup. I have my rear speakers in place but they are not used. they work as baffles since I don't want holes there which would act as "ports" and make the trunk act as a really large bandpass box.
just remember -- there is never a good sound quality reason to run rear speakers in any car. your source sound is only 2 channels so why send it out of four speakers.

Thats not entirely true. It just depends on your sound stage preference and fill. Understanding how far a sound wave must travel before its fully formed will sometimes make it beneficial to have rear deck speakers that serve a very specific purpose. I have also seen many SQ cars that have multiple rear speakers that use very exotic waveguide structures to enhance the left and right channel effects. This becomes very important when, as you probably know, you are trying to create a very dynamic sound stage that gives the impression of having a very large field of sound instead of just a hard left and right. Anyway, that was a bit sorry.
Seems that the Diamond logo enclosures seem pretty popular. I would still be interested in seeing someone build an enclosure that fits two 10in subs that fits entirely in the spare tire well and is completly hidden without raising the floor more then 2 to 3 inches.

I would have to disagree with your statement. The soundstage is entirely hte preference of the recording engineer. They choose the stage location, frequency response, spectral balance and imaging of a recording. A great system simply reproduces that 'vision' properly. Unless it is a DVD or DTS encoded disc there are only 2 channels to reproduce. The less than ideal door speaker location provides enough path length to reproduce frequencies from 200-250Hz in the worst case. The rear could contribute an octave of response between this and the subwoofer but the downsides are too great. Frequencies above 150 are directional and the imaging would suffer, the car interior is a large reflective area and this would diffuse the soundstage and arrival time would be very different. This is why speaker placement is critical and kick panels are often used to increase pathlength and cover from 90-150Hz from the front stereo pair. Having a great soundstage that exceeds the boundaries of the car is best acheived by eliminating or controlling reflections, adding more reflectign waves only creates a bigger mess to deal with.
I have listened to, judged and even built a few world champion SQ systems and I can tell you that if rear speakers were included they were there for video presentation use only or to get more sponsor gear in the car that wasn't ever playing
