Simple Stereo Install for EvoIX SE

I was searching around for a simple stereo install, and after some searching, I found these:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...=remove+stereo
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=241922

They didn't completely answer my questions, so I thought I'd give a quick writeup for those looking for a simple stereo install in an EvoIX.

Quick Answers
-No, you won't need to keep the original deck installed
-No, you don't need to rewire the gauge lights to the new harness.
They're already wired to the car connector itself before the harness connector.
-You can use the original side mounters for the deck, but you might need some adjuster as the face plate trim might not fit exactly. (I didn't really care that much).

Tools
-Phillips Head Screwdriver
-Wire Crimpers
-Wire Strippers

Items
-Your new Deck (mine is a Kenwood KDC-MP235)
-Car Wiring Harness (Metra Electronics No. 70-7001 for Mitsubishi 94-06)
-A bag of about 9-12 squeeze connectors (takes less, but never hurts to be prepared)

Directions
1) Use the squeeze connectors and connect your new deck's harness with the metra electronics harness.
2) Remove all 3 HVAC Dials
3) Unscrew the two screws underneath them
4) Unscrew the two screws underneath the trim in the little cubby hole
5) Carefully pull off the trim
6) Remove 4 screws holding in the deck
7) Pull deck out and pull out harness connector and antenna connector
8) Plug your new harness you made in step 1 into the car's harness
9) Connect your harness into the deck, connect the antenna
10) Just test to make sure everything works and seal her back up

There is a sticky in the Lancer audio forum that dates back to 2002 that provides directions for installing a new radio. Simply searching for "installing radio, installing headunit" should yield results. There are also other supplemental stickies on this subject as well as installation procedures for an amp install. Some one may have posted how to install an alarm too. Its all here I believe. Your directions are more condensed and too the point. Good to have none the less.

Oh yeah, I don't recall seeing a ground wire in the factory harness, did you? Maybe I'm mistaken about that but I'm sure my stereo is grounded to the chassis.

hmm guess I missed those. Would've made things a lot less worrysome when I was originally thinking I had to rewire some stuff.

And yeah, there was no ground wire.

To make your job easier, If your CD player is made by Pioneer, Panasonic, JVC, or Eclipse, Go to Circuit City and purchase the Metra 7001 Smart Cables + The cable for your deck (Both cables should be about 28 bucks) and plug those harnesses together, No crimping needed whatsoever. Takes me less than 15 minutes to put a deck into an Evo or Lancer.

Great write up!

This definitely helped me figure out exactly what I was in for before I actually did it.
