Help? Orbital 2-DIN Install HVAC Relocation

Hi

I was installing the Orbital Double Din kit on 2003 EVO VIII and ran into some issues with the HVAC re-location

1. The HVAC wires especially the black does not seem to be long enough and cannot attach it when i move the contols to the bottom.

Also the metal clip holders cannot be put back.

2. There is a small screw coming out on the left metal frame cos of which i cannot slide the HVAC controls all the way back.

Did any one else run in to these issues and has any suggestions....

Right now i think i will have to buy or make new HVAC wires and some how cut off the screw so i can slide the HVAC controls.

Any suggestion would be appreaciated.

Could you please post pictures?

The wires will reach, you just need to relocate them a bit.

not sure which screw you are talking about...

Why can't the metal clips be "put back" they pop off the old units and onto the new ones.

I will post the pictures tonight..

I tried re locating the wires and they become so tight that when i try to move the ac settings they re-set to the original one

And the reason the clips cannot be put back in is becuase they do not line up over the place where i removed them from they are further back.

Did you re route the wire from some other location???

Regarding the screw, i will attach images and may be that will clarify that

Thanks

you cannot just bend them down to the new location. you have to free them up further forward so that they arnt stretched.

you will have to post pictures so that we can see.

I had the issue, had to cut the side that you are talking about. Just took an airsaw and cut that metal beam out where it was blocking the hvac. That made the install sooooo much easier. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Yeah,

I ended up doing the same thing. Took the plate out made a big hole to route the wires and left on screw off so it would be loose enough to install the HVAC unit.

Thanks

*bump* Anyone do this without taking a saw to their car? Having the same issue... no saw handy.

I had no luck without a saw, but I did not continue to try adn make it fit without one. Once you cut the left side out, all is easy.

My install was done on an Evo 9, but on mine, there is no need for a saw or to cut anything at all. I rerouted the control cables underneath the dash and relocated a sensor box underneath the steering column for a straighter path. There is no mention of this in the installation manual.

This gave more room for the cables and they move super smooth. The HVAC controls can be relocated easily by removing 2 screws on the sides and then bending the metal brackets out of the way of the HVAC. Just try to test-fit the piece and take a look underneath the dash panel at the control cables. Might need to remove the lower dash panel under the steering column. You should be able to easily figure out where they will run and how to route them best. Everything is in pretty easy view.

Do you have pics? Once you totally remove the HIVAC It should get a little easier due to the fact that your lowering the wires..........
