Best JL's?
#31
4WS,
Agreed that the W6's (Especially the W6v2) are a great value for their price range. Having heard a properly powered W7 vs a W6 (Can't recall if v1 or v2) there is a difference, especially towards the lower (sub 30Hz) frequencies.
The W6 is a great performer, and probably a better value than the W7, but on an absolute scale, the W7 is just plain better.
Given MumeiEvolution's budget he's sparing no expense, so he might as well go top of the line. Besides that, the W7's have a great show factor. I love enclosures with inverted W7's, because those subs are extremely beefy the look very badass....

sub vs sub sure... but were talking about setups..
two 10 w6v2 vs 13w7 will be just as loud as eachother but the 10's will hit harder and have a crisper sound.
Cheers!

I had 2 10x6's, sounded great, really nice.
Switched to 2 10w7's, sounded awesome but way too loud.
Stepped it down to just 1 10w7, and now I think it is perfect.
The bass sounds like it has cleaner sweeps (response time?) on the w7, than the w6's, but good god the 7's are loud. At higher volumes the w7 rocks and has better SQ, but the w'6s sounded better at lower volumes.

So you're stating that two 10" w6v2's will hit harder than two 13" w7's/
Right....
Regarding the crisp sound, the problem is that most people don't reinforce the mid-bass enough to compensate for the increased bass output of the w7's.
On a properly balanced system, the W7 outperform the w6's

MumeiEvolution hasn't specified where it's going, but no matter what the car, those subs require some serious sound deadening.
Ok, in that case sure. Still I don't know where the comparison came from, because I originally recommended *two* 13w7's.
Again, I'm not knocking the W6's, as they are great subs.
I'm just responding to the original question, which was "What's the best JL amp/sub combo I can get for $3-$5K"
If he had asked the same thing constrained to a $2k budget, then sure, I'd be recommending the W6's as well.

I haven't heard the Type X in person.
Looking at the specs, in paper, it looks like it would be better than the W6 in a ported box (Based on Vas, Fs and Xmax). Real world performance is a completely different animal though...
Your ears will be the final judges.

I prefer the JL, but I don't see how that's going to help you. Maybe you have different tastes than I do.
Try to find a JL and listen to it (should be fairly simple, as its a very common brand) Ask yourself: Is this good enough for me?
Yes: Buy It.
No: Find a type X, repeat.
