i had the Viper 791xv on my previous Evo 9 and i liked how it performed. i was thinking about getting the 5900 since it was pretty much the same as the 791xv, but it had a 1 mile range. then some guy told me about vipers new 5901 and i'm getting that fa sho! oh and i installed the alarm/remote start myself so i dont need to worry about who can install it for me. haha.

Here is a site where you could buy an alarm cheap, you would just have to have an authorized dealer install it.

there was alot of good advice given here, the one thing i didnt see mentioned was alarms are not fullproof they can still be bypassed,so HAVE a backup plan, for ex. my backup plan is motion sensors and video surv.surrounding car..and lets not forget the 50 cal.

^^-- on Compustar. It's not "really known" but they make good products. I've been using the same system on my old car that transferred to the evo. It's been about 7 years already and still works like a charm Turbo timer, remote start, lcd remote display, and easy to adjust the sensitivity.

well realy what it comes down to!
theres a slimm chance. but if someone jacks your car alarm somtimes dont matter! and if the can decode your alarm it reallly dont matter! basicly what it comes down to standard alarms are worthless just a touch of luxuary!

i found a gps alarm that can runn on its own battery if disconnect up to 7 hours/ also can shut the car down if hijacked so the theft cant drive away! also if they car is started or messed with the gps will page my phone !

it has a sim card slot so you just add a prepaid sim card from your cell phone company. and then you have instant almost free gps! that you can locate on google map to watch your car

allday10sec - That is one crazy alarm system. A tad bit of overkill, but cool concepts. I do agree that without gps, a "regular alarm system" will not deter someone from stealing your car.

def. get an alarm that alerts you that its going off via a transponder, call to your cell phone, etc. Especially if you live in a highly populated area.... people just shrug off car alarms.

ok so i just got my viper 5701 alarm installed today by a stereo/alarm shop. and the alarm is awesome, alot of diff features just have to learn the book with all the button and combinations. ONE major thing is that the remote start feature works BUT i believe something isnt right because i follow the sequence that it tells you for manual transmission cars and we were at my buddys shop after i picked it up and tested the remote start but in first gear to see if it would start and it did i practically almost had to chance my car down lol. going back tomorrow to have them take a look at it. i never leave my car in gear but just to be on the safe side i want the alarm to work the way it is intened to. all in all great alarm and features. glad that my employee discount still works at best buy. got it for 150 and the install was another 150
