Anyone running 1100 rms w/ stock alternator

I posted this in the Ralliart audio section but didnt get any input.

My JL e1800d, 800 rms,amp cuts out at high volumes. The grounds have been upgraded with 4 guage. I am running 4 guage power to my JL 300/2, 300 rms, and to the sub amp. My 12 in. dual 4ohm Arc Audio Flatline is wired at 2 ohms. I have set the input sens. of the amp using a 50hz 0db test tone with bass boost off. I have followed JL's input sens. adjustment to the tee. The head unit is an Alpine 9830.

I measured the voltage to the amp with the car running, 14.2 to 12.6. I called JL and they said I may not be seeing the voltage drop below 12v with my digital meter. The voltage to the amp maybe dropping too quick. They suggested an alternator upgrade.

I have 0 guage wire on order. I will be doing the big 3. My lights do dimm on high volume bass hits. I can live with the dimming. But I need to solve the sub cutting out. Is anyone running this much power with the stock alternator? What did you do to keep the sub amp from cutting out? Are these JL amps sensitive to such voltage drops?

I'm running just over 1100 watts rms to my sub and just over 180 watts rms to each of my seperates. I am running a stock alternator. Granted, I am running a cap, but the cap is enough for me. Stereo sounds awesome and I have no dimming issues whatsoever.

Dub 7 with Focal comps.... nice system. Thanks for your reply, Bro. Today, I replaced my 4guage grounds with 0 guage. I also did the alternator positive to battery and replaced my main power fuse. Problem solved. The old fuse was only a few months old. There was a chip and a crack in the fuses caseing but it was not blown.

Did you always have a cap. in your system? Were your lights dimming before the cap.?

i never keep it loud while sitting idle- at idle you're not pumping much amps from the alt!

Yes, I have always run a cap with this system. The only time I have had any trouble with dimming is when my battery started crapping out.

Are you using the stock battery? If so, try getting an optima yellow top or similar battery. It should help.

Also, where and how did you ground the amp? Did you scrape the paint?

The battery is a stock type, size battery. It's almost a year old.

The amp is mounted under my driver seat. It's grounded under the cup holder/storage piece. I did sand the paint off of all my ground points.
My power run goes like this:

4 guage from the the bat., 12in. the 150 amp fuse, mounted on the fire wall through rubber grommet on pass. side fire wall, down the right side to the trunk splits to 2- 4 guage. One 4gauge to the JL 3002 mounted on the rear back seat the other 4 guage runs under the back seat to the JL e1800d mounted under the driver seat.

Should I be running a separate power from the sub amp from the battery?

run two batteries. put a good one in the trunk and connect your amp directly to that one and run your 0 you have now to the trunk battery.

I removed the driver seat and the center console to mount the amp. I drilled a small hole, sanded to bare metal and mounted the 4 guage ground to the metal center hump. Near the parking brake mounting bolts.

I thought of a 2nd battery. Maybe just upgrading the main battery? I know the ultimate solution would be: 200 amp alt., 400.00 and an Optima or Kinetik battery, 200.00. That's 600 bucks. Dang!

Running the power from the battery, directly to the amp sounds like my next step.

Thanks for your help.

I was running 1000rms on stock alt. I also had a 2 ga. wire running to my 5 farad cap, and then splitting off to 4 ga to each of my amps.

If you do the Big-3, you should see a huge difference. When I had my Accord, I was running over 1500rms on a newer stock alt. No cap. I did have an Optima red-top. You should be fine with the stock alt when you get that done.
