Need some hardware help

I'm going to be building a new system for my Evo here in a couple months, and so far I only know what deck I want, and what sub/amp combo I'm going to use:

Alpine CDA-9887
JL W3 12" sub
JL 500/1v2 amp

But what should I use in the doors? I was thinking a component set for the front, and just higher end replacements in the back, but what sets, and what amp? I listen mostly to rock in all its forms, from classic to metal.

May I ask why you decided on a 9887? I'm asking, because it doesn't sound like you plan to utilize its DSP-driven tuning features.

As for speakers, you need to go to a store, listen to a few models and see what you like. I'd suggest ditching the rears, altogether.

Keep in mind that the Evo is loud, very loud. The system may sound fine while the car is standing still, but it's a different story when it's on the move, encountering a series of random cancellation below the mids, and greatly obscuring detail and overall resolution everywhere else. As such, you need to make a choice at this stage of system composition. Do you want to go all-out by essentially overpowering the car's inherent limitations and tuning the rig to forgo its environmental constants, or are you willing to settle for sound quality that isn't necessarily better than what you have now - mostly, just louder. The 9887 has everything you needs to tune the system. The question is, how comfortable are you doing it? Judging by your questions, you may be better-off with the latter option.

If you do decide to upgrade your door speakers, keep in mind that the doors will need to be deadened and sealed. I'd strongly suggest reading everything here before proceeding. Good luck.

No response, not even a quick thanks? I'm really glad I took the time.

Ouch :-(

Lol sorry, I don't come to the forums too much, except to check in on the regional.

Anyway, I chose that deck because, as I understand, it's one of the best single dins out there right now, and it's easily in my budget.

As for personal taste in my setup, I'm a freak about quality. Even if the cars mechanical sounds and lack of sufficient sound deadening make a good system pointless, I'd still put it in.

Also, I'm not against the idea of adding things like dynamat or the cell foam insulation for better audio.

And thanks for the kickass response, I don't often get detail like that when I ask questions!

It is a very good deck, mostly, due to its tuning features. I run a 9887 and I've compared it directly to a 9873 - a deck less than half its cost. There was a difference in sound quality, but it was very subtle, almost nonexistent on a greater scale. I guess I'm trying to say that if you're not going to use 9887's x-overs, its PEQ and DSP, there's no real advantage to it. OTOH, if you feel like you may want to take the system further at a later date, might as well get a 9887 to begin with.

Take a very good look at the site I link'd in my other post. Don Sambook, the man behind sounddeadenershowdown.com, is the authority on deadening. His methodology, as well as his products, are the state of the art in the field.
