I have a viper alarm with a pager, but the range isn't that great. Having notification sent to the iphone would be excellent (greater range I presume).

it's unlimited use but it is a monthly charge after the first year of service (you sign a 2year contract if i'm correct). There is GPS tracking coming soon with that unit but as of right now, no. It is unlimited range because the part installed in your car is essentially a cell phone that your cell phone communicates with.

I got the viper smart start installed this week. Total cost was close to $600 for everything from Best Buy. When I created my account online you have to choose to pay $50 a year or $100 for 3 years of service. There is no monthly fee.

So far it works perfectly, no problems starting or unlocking. The range so far I have reached about 3/4 mile. I will try sometime to start from like 25 miles away, just to see if it works.

the smart start alone (vss100,200, 300, or 400) is not an alarm you need the viper 5701 or 5901 with the viper vss200. it will send Push notification to your phone if you have the alarm, and if someone sets it off like a pager alarm.

the range on it is endless as long as your phone has signal you can control your car. cost 50 for a year or they have a special 3 years for $100

they are coming out with the new kinda "low jack" style to tell you where the car is but no set date on it.

Hope this helps guys.
