Need help finding a simple good single-din deck

Like the title states, I am looking for a nice simple deck to replace my stock one because I hate how I can't play mp3 cd's and so on. I've looked at some Pioneers and Alpine, but the ones I've found does not illuminate red or just white to match the stock lighting. Tell me if you know of any. Thanks!

Many entry-level Alpines have red illumination with white-ish displays that come close to matching the dash colors, especially when installed in the lower cubby:

I believe that all Alpine decks have the option of red or blue lighting. Mine is just a setting that I had to change from blue to red. Looks almost stock at night when changed to red. Go Alpine mine has been awesome!!

I'm looking to buy a new deck as well and the Alpine CDA-105 is what I've been looking at. It's the mid-level Alpine with mp3 and ipod ready as well.

+1 for Alpine. I don't have this deck, but I think it is a gen older model. Everything that is blue you can change to red, and the display is a nice white. Also, very simple and does great ipod control or playing mp3 off CD, etc. Good luck!

Guys, the OP is looking for a "nice simple deck." That's not a 9887. I have a 9887 and like it a lot, but the OP would never use most of what it has to offer.

I have a nice simple JVC HD radio and it has all the ipod and mp3 crap. Great sound and all the extra HD stations. Was inexpensive also.

I have the CDA-9885 (verified which model) in my truck. I actually read "nice simple deck" from the OP as a clean looking deck; none of the Sony Xplod crap for example. I think the 9885, and the 9887 as well, are nice and clean, very simple looking. They do have good options, and met one of his criteria: red coloring to match the Evo interior lighting with white text.

I figured ipod capability is always nice to have, even if the OP didn't mention it. I'm not sure how many of the other features he may not use, though. I actually wasn't considering price cause the OP didn't mention that, and I also got my 9885 for really cheap brand new, so I forgot how much this line actually sells for.

FWIW OP, you could likely find a lightly used 9885 for under $100 in good working order. Obviously look at Craiglist for local or ebay if you want paypal backing you up. Maybe even post a WTB in the marketplace on here. Good luck!

A 9885 is not a 9887. Not even close.

Agreed... 9887 is not a simple deck. If you want to be able to adjust the treble/bass you need to buy an additional unit to do that. It has alot of adjustments for sound so this is not the easiest to use. I love mine but if you want simple go with 9886 or lower.

True. A 9887 tuned with Alpine's Imprint software allows for Bass/Treble controls to appear. Otherwise, everything is manual - 5-band PEQ or 7-band GEQ instead of tone controls, time alignment, and a full x-over allowing for an active configuration. It's a DSP-driven deck made for tuning applications.

Ah, I assumed it was just a newer model based on the number; I can see now that the 9887 has much more control for an audiophile. Try to find a 9885 online, OP! It will be tough to find a new unit, but they probably pop on ebay every once in a while. Good luck!
