I have a 1996 Evo 4. Sometimes on when I turn the key to crank, for half a second everything loses power and there is a buzzing underneath the dash, then the buzzing stops and the engine starts.

It's not repeatable enough to make a video. The location of the noise seems to be the area behind the radio. I've looked through electrical diagrams and it looks like the only thing back there related to starting/running is the fuel pump relay but that can't be it if it's stopping the starter from cranking.

It hasn't left me stranded yet but its winter in Canada so I'd like to get this sorted out before it does.

There is also an MPI and or starter relay back in that area, check grounds to dash they can cause this sometimes.

I know the grounds are good. I put in an Evo 8 engine in the summer and after a few electrical problems, all the grounds were cleaned and tightened. I'll find the relay and test it.
